A huge thank you to Sarah Milly and Martin Manchester Weather for having me on their show this afternoon. I had so much fun and it was such a wonderful opportunity to talk about our brilliant charity. I especially enjoyed re-living my youth to some 90s dance tunes 🪩

What an absolute superstar! 🌟 Elias took on his sponsored cycle ride and absolutely SMASHED his fundraising target! We couldn’t be prouder or more grateful for such an incredible effort.

Elias chose to take on this challenge to celebrate his cousin Rachel’s 10th transplant anniversary - what a truly gorgeous and meaningful way to mark such a special milestone 🥹❤️

Reaching 10 years since a transplant is something truly worth celebrating, and Elias has turned that celebration into something that will make a real difference to others.

Thanks to Elias and everyone who has supported him, you’re helping us support future patients and their families, offering hope, care and support when they need it most.

🎨 More colour, more creativity, and a whole lot of community spirit! ❤️

We absolutely LOVE our new wall murals by the wonderfully talented Myro Doodles! 😍

Myro was given just a few key dates scribbled on a piece of paper and a chat about our wonderful community. No lengthy brief, no pages of instructions … just a little insight into who we are and what makes our community so special.

And look what she created! All at the weekend too, during precious family time✨

The Electric Cranks Cycling Club can’t wait for you to see it during the LVAD cafe next week 🚲 ☕️

In a world that can sometimes feel short on colour, creativity and a little bit of human magic, these murals are a beautiful reminder of what happens when real talent, imagination and connection come together.

At a time when so much is generated by AI, there’s something truly special about work created by a real person, inspired by real people and a real community. Myro, you absolutely understood the brief … and then some! ❤️✨

We couldn’t be happier to see our walls brought to life in such a meaningful, vibrant and joyful way.

❤️ World Mental Health Day | 10 October 2026 ❤️

This year’s focus on lived experiences feels especially poignant for us at New Start, supporting people living with heart and lung transplants and LVADs.

Behind every medical journey is a personal story, one filled with hope, courage, uncertainty and emotional challenges that aren’t always visible. Because recovery is about more than just physical health - our mental health is just as important.

That’s why our monthly LVAD Cafés and Transplant Cafés are so important. They bring people together to share experiences, offer peer support and connect with others who truly understand. Sometimes, simply knowing you’re not alone can make all the difference.

Every story matters. Every experience has value. And nobody should have to navigate this alone.

This World Mental Health Day, we celebrate the power of shared experiences, the strength of community and the comfort of being understood. ❤️

❤️ A second chance at life

Kamila was a mum of three when a routine operation changed everything. Just one hour after surgery, she suffered a cardiac arrest and multiple organ failure. She was clinically dead for 33 minutes and spent seven weeks in intensive care, fighting to survive.

Then, just days before Christmas, came the news that would change her life forever: a donor heart had become available.

On 19 December 2024, Kamila received her heart transplant. 🎄❤️

Her recovery was far from easy. She had to learn to walk again, rebuild her strength and face a difficult first year. But today, she says there is nothing stopping her from enjoying life again.

For Kamila, the greatest gift is being there for her children…watching them grow, cuddling them and being there whenever they need her.

She describes her donor as her “guardian angel” and has a heartfelt message for donor families: their decision has given hope, life and a future to another family.
