That burning feeling in the ball of your foot can make a normal walk feel much longer and less enjoyable than it should. πŸ‘£

Some patients describe it as aching or burning, while others say it feels like a small stone is stuck inside their shoe.

This is often called metatarsalgia, which simply means pain at the front of the foot, just behind the toes.

Tight shoes, increased activity, hard skin or bunions can all play a part. The discomfort may become more noticeable after a long day on your feet, especially when the area is under repeated pressure.

Sometimes, reviewing your footwear, reducing pressure on the area and dealing with any hard skin can help.

It is worth paying attention if the discomfort keeps returning or starts affecting the walks and everyday plans you enjoy.

If this sounds familiar, please feel free to get in touch.

I often get asked very similar foot care questions from patients. This could include heel pain that won't shift, cracked skin that bleeds, bunions and fungal nails.

πŸ€” "Will it get better?"
πŸ€” "How do I treat this condition?"

So I've written about some of the most common topics and added advice and guidance on my website, which you can access for free.

I give real answers, what actually works, why it matters and what you can do about it. With no judgment or unnecessary complexity.

The wrong shoes are ruining your feet. Literally πŸ‘’

I see patients every week whose pain vanishes the moment they go up a size or switch brands or styles. Foot conditions like metatarsalgia, heel pain, bunions and corns getting worse often trace back to shoes that don't fit.

When your feet are cramped, they're working harder than they should. Your toes are squeezed, your arches are unsupported, your heel's slipping. And that stress shows up as burning, aching, throbbing that can be unbearable.

πŸ‘  A shoe that's too tight restricts blood flow and one that's too loose forces your foot to grip just to stay put. Either way, your feet are exhausted.

But it's completely fixable and even switching half a size can make the difference.

➑️ Not sure what size you actually need? Or which shoes will actually support your feet? That's what I'm here for. Book a chat and we'll sort it.

🦢 Foot care can be tricky, especially when the issues you're facing include previous misdiagnosis, recurring foot problems and pain that is stopping you from going about daily life.

Luckily for these three patients, I was happy to resolve their issues and give them peace of mind that they have a practitioner they can trust to resolve their pains and offer the right treatment.

For Nicholas "mum had a problem with her toes that other people had diagnosed incorrectly and Ola resolved the situation immediately." πŸ’

Then Sophia came in after a weight dropped on her big toenail. "Really glad I visited as it fixed the problem and put my mind at ease." πŸ’

And finally I helped Marilyn's partner, who's "foot was very painful", and "although his treatment took a number of weeks Ola never gave up on what was a very frustrating problem. Her help has been so very good and we eventually found a solution we couldn’t have done it without her help." πŸ’

Three people. Three very different foot care problems that were resolved. That's what I'm here for πŸ’™

If you're managing diabetes, your feet need a little extra attention πŸ‘€

Diabetes can affect blood flow and nerve sensation in your feet. What that means is the likes of small cuts, blisters, or sores can develop without you noticing them.

Don't worry, though, it's what I'm here for, and catching things early makes all the difference.

πŸ‘£ Regular foot checks become part of your self-care routine when you're managing diabetes. Keep them moisturised, look out for any changes, and get professional support when something doesn't feel right.

If you've recently been diagnosed or you've been managing it for years, your feet deserve that same attention you're already giving everything else.

But if your feet aren't properly supported, even the best day out can end with aching heels, sore arches and a painful ball of the foot.

That's where prescribed insoles change the game. They're not just padding, though this kind of support can also be useful, they're prescribed for your feet, to suit how you move.

πŸ‘Ÿ If you have high arches, flat feet or are spending more time on your feet than usual, the right insoles in the correct footwear make all the difference.

I work with patients every single week who say they wish they'd used insoles sooner. No more cutting walks short, or missing out on this glorious Summer weather.

Are you ready to walk further, more comfortably? Book an appointment with me and let's get your feet summer-ready πŸ™‚

Back from the sun and your feet feel like sandpaper?

You're not alone. Sun, sand, pool chlorine, and days spent barefoot are brilliant for the soul, but tough on your skin, especially your heels.

Here's my advice for soothing those aching feet when you're back home:

βœ… Soak them first. A few minutes in warm water softens hard, dry skin before you do anything else.
βœ… File rough skin gently. Little and often beats one aggressive session and rushing it can do more harm than good.
βœ… Moisturise properly. Really work it into your heels and all over.
βœ… Keep going. One good session won't undo weeks of sun and sand. Little and often is the best way to go.

Cracked heels are one of the most common things I see this time of year, and often there's nothing serious going on. Just feet that need a bit of TLC after all that fun in the sun.

➑️ If yours are looking rougher than you'd like, or something feels more than just dry, don't wait it out. I'm always happy to help.

Your appointment with me isn't just about treatment.

There's a set of values used across NHS healthcare, known as the 6 C's of Care. Care, compassion, competence, communication, courage and commitment. This means:

πŸ‘£ Giving you my full attention alongside my expertise.
πŸ‘£ Remembering that sore feet aren't only a physical problem, they can knock your confidence too.
πŸ‘£ Being honest with you even when the answer isn't the one you were hoping for.

As a private practitioner I am equally committed to the 6 Cs πŸ’™

If you've ever felt properly listened to at an appointment, you'll know exactly what I mean. It changes everything.

School's out, suitcases are coming down from the loft, and we're all thinking about the next trip abroad πŸ‘£

With all these exciting plans, why not also make sure your feet are ready for the extra walks and new open toe shoes?

We think about sun cream, passports, and packing lists. Feet often get forgotten until someone's hobbling round an airport in new sandals that haven't been broken in.

πŸ’ Kids' feet are still growing and benefit from a quick check before the summer of trainers, flip-flops and paddling pools.

πŸ’ Grown-up feet carry the extra miles of sightseeing and beach walks.

πŸ’ Grandparents joining the trip? A quick once-over can catch anything that might slow the holiday down.

Sorting it now, before the school holidays properly kick off, means everyone starts their trip comfortable rather than nursing sore feet by day two.

➑️ Fancy getting the whole family sorted before you jet off? Get in touch and we'll find times that work for everyone.

This past weekend, I swapped the clinic for the hills and headed to Betws-y-Coed with my family πŸ’™

There's something about the Northwest and North Wales that never gets old. Waterfalls, fresh air, and a proper walk that actually gets the legs moving (sorry feet, I promise I wore good shoes).

It's easy to forget to switch off sometimes. Even foot health practitioners need a good pair of trainers and a proper break every now and then πŸ™‚

If you've got a favourite spot in North Wales or the Northwest, I'd love to hear it. I'm always after new places to explore.

➑️ I'm now back in the clinic, so visit my website or get in touch directly to book your appointment.
