Cemal graduated from Manchester Dental School in 1982. After postgraduate training as an oral surgeon he established a private referral practice for implant dentistry in 1988. Over the past 20 years he has carried out thousands of implant procedures using different implant systems, including Astra, Brän
emark, ITI/ Straumann® and Sweden & Martina. With a commitment to long-term dental research and education, Cemal has lectured in implant dentistry since the 1990s, providing ongoing clinical support, training and mentoring to more than 2,000 dentists. His special clinical interests are guided bone regeneration, osteopromotion and biomechanical loading of implants. His academic interests include developing frameworks for assessment of clinical competencies in implant dentistry as well as training and calibration of mentors. He was awarded a PhD at Manchester University for his study investigating the factors affecting the survival of implants in iliac bone grafts and osteoporotic patients. Cemal is a past president of the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI), a fellow of the ITI, Clinical Director of the ICE Postgraduate Dental Institute and Clinical Lead of the MSc programme in Dental Implantology at Edge Hill University, as well as being a member of the Faculty of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Implant Dentistry.
