Matt’s porcelain lanterns are crafted with paper thin walls to allow light to permeate. The chattered texture blocks different levels of light, allowing for the texture to become illuminated and exaggerated, especially when using a naked flame that flickers within. 🔥

The foundation for a lot of Matt’s work is using contrast to highlight the natural beauty of clay itself. Lanterns are his ‘Flagship’ pieces and are the most delicate and time consuming to make.

Welcome to the team (officially) - Tai 🥳

Tai has been working quietly behind the scenes helping us structure our CIC properly and being a generally wonderful and positive influence in our lives whilst we've been working hard. We welcome her now officially as she will be taking over our social media and correspondence while Jess is away walking the Pennine Way. ❤️

Here is a little bit about Tai, so you know who you're talking to:

It's been so exciting to watch AGNI evolve over the past few years and i'm so happy to be officially part of the team 🥳

At the end of last year I came back to the UK after 2 years in Australia and I knew I didn't want to enter the corporate world again. I found an interest to work with charities, CICs and Foundations and my curiosity deepened this year since I've been volunteering for a variety of organisations based around the UK.

I wanted a change in my work life so that I could add more value to my day by helping these types of organisations make a positive impact on people's lives. All these steps and change of direction has led me to working for AGNI CIC which is amazing. I can't wait to get more involved and really looking forward to engaging with you over the next few weeks🕯

I'm a minimalist who likes to journal and finds happiness and calmness in nature, whether it's a steep, rainy hike up a mountain, a forest walk or a swim in the ocean watching the sunset. I don't like coffee but I love Mexican & Thai food and the most interesting place I've travelled to so far is Japan 🤓

Make your own incense holder with Matt on Sunday 6 June @ 2pm on our Instagram live. 🔥

Matt will be running our make along from the pottery studio, making a kurinuki incense holder. 🏺

Kurinuki is a method of making with clay that utilises the natural texture and plasticity of clay to create unique textures that can give the appearance and feel of stone. As if the pieces were chiselled straight out of a rock face. 🪨

You will need 500g of air dry clay, 50g of sand (or grit/similar) and a pallete knife (or wallpaper scraper). 🎨

Keep your eyes peeled next week as we will reveal a sneak peak of what you will be making with Matt. 👀

Over the past few months has been dedicating a large amount of her time training for and planning a walk along the Pennine Way.

The walk is 268 miles and will take her three weeks of walking every day. If any of you have walked the Pennine Way before, we'd love to hear your experiences, tips, challenges things to look out for.

While Jess is away, we will be leaving all of the deliveries to our post office pro, Matt and our social media with the lovely and friendly Tai, who we will be introducing in a couple of days.

You're in more than capable hands, so carry on as normal and our team will make sure your questions are answered & your orders are sent with care.

AGNIs mission is to improve wellbeing for people in Manchester experiencing mental health problems. All of our profits are reinvested to run mindful craft workshops and candle-making traineeships.

Last year we offered our first candle traineeship to Lucy. We really enjoyed having Lucy as part of the team, learning to make candles, packaging orders, writing thank you notes and even doing some mindful meditation.

Some kind words from Lucy:

"Working at AGNI to create candles has been an absolute joy and has given me new skills that I am very excited to explore in the future. Their focus on mental health and meditation changed my perspective on what an employer and employee relationship can be. I wish more companies were like AGNI and I hope that soon other people can also benefit from them as much as I have.

Since my traineeship, I have continued to use my newfound skills as an activity to connect with others and to experiment creatively making homemade gifts for family and friends!"

Our ceramic candles are made from scratch in one studio in Manchester. 🕯️

We have recently moved into where Matt makes all of the ceramic bodies for our candles. 🏺

Downstairs the candles are thrown, trimmed and glazed by Matt and upstairs they are filled with wax by . 👫

When Matt is trimming the candle vessels he pays attention to how his hand positioning feels, getting a feel for the amount of pressure needed helps him to trim the candles accurately and efficiently. 👐
