Stroke Association North West

Stroke Association North West Every day in the North West, people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. Stroke Association believe in life after stroke.

We're here to help them, and the people close to them, find strength through support. That is why we support stroke survivors to make the best recovery they can. It's why we campaign for better stroke prevention and care. And it’s why we fund research to develop new treatments and ways of preventing stroke. We are a charity and we rely on your support to change the lives of people affected by stroke and reduce the number of people who are struck down by this devastating disease.

Thank you to Neil and James, from Preston, who are walking from coast to coast covering an incredible 192 miles to fundraise for the Stroke Association They’ve already raised an amazing £1,161 for vital stroke support and research.

They’re setting off on their journey today (Tuesday 9th) and they said, ‘every step we take will be in honour of those who have faced this life-altering condition.’

They’ll be carrying all their own cargo so it will be a demanding challenge for them. Both Neil and Jimmy have been deeply touched by the impact of strokes on our family and friends. We can’t thank them enough for their support.

A huge thank you to the Fylde Coast Team, who welcomed colleagues, family, and friends to take part in an awareness walk supporting Stroke Association during Make May Purple!

Together, they completed an 8-mile walk along Green Hurst Way, part of the famous Tolkien Trail. While the route was challenging in places, everyone enjoyed a rewarding day filled with teamwork, support, and raising awareness for the Stroke Association

Thank you all again

Clair Scully, from Liverpool, will be cheered on by her eight-year-old son Oliver when she runs in the TCS London Marathon on Sunday to raise funds for our charity.

“He’s my Number One supporter,” said Clair, who is fundraising in memory of her friend Rob who passed away after a stroke in May last year.

We’d like to say good luck and thank you to Clair and to everyone else who is running for Team Stroke on Sunday! 💜

There’s two weeks to go until we kick off our 31 minutes in May challenge!
We’re asking people to do 31 minutes of exercise a day in May – any exercise they like- this Stroke Awareness Month.
Every pound you raise will help stroke survivors find strength through support.
Sign up now to get your free t-shirt in time for the start of the challenge: https://givp.nl/register/6K3j6pDn

Donald took part in our 31 minutes in May challenge last year. He had a stroke in 2021 and is now supported by his sister, Irene. This is what Irene had to say about the challenge Donald did:
'Donald would sing while exercising, “Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow”. It became a big motivator. He loved seeing what people in the Facebook group were saying about him. Their encouragement gave him a push to keep going the next day.
'People even started sponsoring him after following his story online. Some have become friends. He took it with humour, but he really valued the camaraderie. It wasn’t just about the challenge, it was about being part of something bigger. It made the whole experience so enjoyable.'
It’s up to you how you choose to do your 31 minutes of exercise a day in May. You could do physio exercises, go for a walk, swim or cycle - anything goes!

If you’d like to join the 31 minutes in May challenge this year, you’ll find more information here: https://www.stroke.org.uk/get-involved/fundraise/facebook-challenge
