Good morning, Beautiful Souls ๐Ÿ˜Š

Starting the day here with my Palo Santo burning and the windows open, letting the fresh air flow through the house.

Taking a moment to reflect on what I'm grateful for today and what I'm ready to let go of.

Beginning the day slowly, intentionally, and without rushingโ€”creating a little space for calm before the day unfolds.

How are you starting your morning? ๐Ÿค

Why Movement Matters for Lymph Flow

Unlike the circulatory system, which has the heart to pump blood around the body, the lymphatic system relies heavily on movement to keep lymph fluid flowing.

Every time your muscles contractโ€”whether you're walking, stretching, swimming, gardening, or simply moving about your dayโ€”they gently compress nearby lymphatic vessels. This helps move lymph fluid towards lymph nodes, where it is filtered before continuing its journey through the body.

When we spend long periods sitting or remaining inactive, this natural pumping action slows down. As a result, lymph flow can become less efficient, which may contribute to feelings of heaviness, puffiness, or fluid retention in some people.

๐Ÿ’ก Lymphatic Health Tip:

You don't need an intense workout to support your lymphatic system. Gentle, consistent movement throughout the day is often more beneficial than one strenuous exercise session.

Try:
โœ“ A 10โ€“15 minute walk
โœ“ Gentle stretching
โœ“ Swimming
โœ“ Yoga
โœ“ Standing up and moving every hour if you work at a desk

Small amounts of regular movement can make a significant difference in supporting healthy lymphatic circulation.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage vs Brazilian MLD & Wood Therapy: What's the difference?

While all three modalities may help reduce puffiness and fluid retention, they are not necessarily the same treatment.

๐Ÿ’š Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
Traditional MLD methods, such as the Vodder technique, are based on lymphatic anatomy and physiology. The lymphatic system is a delicate, low-pressure system, with initial lymphatic vessels located just beneath the skin.

MLD uses gentle, rhythmic skin-stretching movements designed to stimulate lymphatic uptake, support lymphangion contraction, and encourage fluid movement through established lymphatic pathways. It is commonly used for:
- Lymphedema
- Lipedema
- Medical oedema
- Post-surgical swelling
- Lymphatic dysfunction

๐Ÿ’› Brazilian MLD
The movements are typically faster, firmer and more focused on immediate aesthetic outcomes such as:
- Reduced bloating
- Less fluid retention
- Enhanced body definition
- Temporary contouring effects

Many clients notice visible changes after treatment. Some of the results may be related to tissue fluid movement, improved circulation and venous return, rather than direct stimulation of the lymphatic system itself.

๐ŸคŽ Wood Therapy
Using specially designed wooden tools, treatments aim to:
- Mobilise tissues
- Stimulate circulation
- Improve the appearance of cellulite
- Create body-contouring effects

Wood Therapy is considered a body-contouring and tissue-stimulation treatment rather than a clinical lymphatic drainage technique.

Brazilian MLD or Wood Therapy may achieve results through different mechanisms than traditional MLD. Therapist will sometimes use the Brazilian and the Wood together.

๐ŸŒฟ My Opinion
They serve different purposes.
โœ”๏ธ Vodder MLD โ€“ lymphatic therapy focused on supporting lymphatic function and fluid movement.
โœ”๏ธ Brazilian MLD โ€“ an aesthetic-focused treatment that may encourage fluid movement while delivering visible contouring results.
โœ”๏ธ Wood Therapy โ€“ body contouring and tissue stimulation with secondary effects on circulation and fluid retention.

As a therapist I believe it is my responsibility to understand the difference between treatments, communicate their purpose honestly, and select the approach that best serves the client in front of me.

What the Lymphatic System Actually Does

The lymphatic system is a crucial part of the body's waste removal and immune function. It transports lymph fluid containing proteins, cellular waste, and immune cells through a network of vessels and lymph nodes.

Unlike blood circulation, it doesn't have a central pump like the heart. Instead, lymph flow depends on the natural contraction of lymphatic vessels, along with movement, breathing, and muscle activity.

๐Ÿ’ก Lymphatic Health Tip:

Swimming is a fantastic way to support healthy lymphatic flow because it encourages gentle, full-body movement. As you swim, you're using your arms, legs, core, back, shoulders, and neck, creating continuous muscle activity throughout the body.

These repeated muscle contractions help encourage the movement of lymph fluid, while the water itself provides gentle pressure around the body, supporting circulation. It's a low-impact exercise that benefits both your lymphatic system and overall wellbeing.
