Last month, our Executive Chef Tyler spent time with the team at B&R Dining in March exploring approaches to IDDSI, safe dining and modern presentation within specialist catering.

The collaboration focused on sharing knowledge around texture-modified diets, safe testing methods and plating techniques, helping bridge restaurant dining experiences with the realities of specialist rehabilitation and care environments.

The partnership also opens exciting opportunities for future restaurant-style experiences for residents at Askham Rehab.

Today marks the beginning of National Aphasia Awareness Month.

Aphasia can affect communication in many different ways following brain injury or neurological condition, influencing speech, understanding, reading and writing. Rehabilitation therefore often requires specialist, individualised approaches that support both communication and confidence throughout recovery.

At Askham Rehab, individuals living with aphasia are supported through multidisciplinary rehabilitation involving Speech and Language Therapy alongside wider clinical and therapeutic input, with rehabilitation focused on communication, independence and day-to-day engagement.

May has been a busy and meaningful month across Askham Rehab 🌿

Throughout the month, we marked important awareness events including Mental Health Awareness Week, Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day, World MS Day and International Nurses Day, continuing conversations around specialist rehabilitation, wellbeing and multidisciplinary support.

We also celebrated:
β€’ the launch of our new Wednesday BBQ menu
β€’ the final destinations of Food Travel
β€’ our continued partnership with Cognishine Therapy & Education
β€’ residents enjoying more time outdoors through gardening at Askham Court
β€’ multiple shortlist nominations at the Great British Care Awards 2026

Thank you to everyone across the Askham community who continues to make these moments possible throughout rehabilitation and everyday life.

Our recent Trivia Night brought another great evening of conversation, laughter and friendly competition across Askham Rehab ✨

We were especially proud to see residents from Askham Grove join the event, helping bring people together from across the wider community.

Alongside rehabilitation itself, opportunities to take part in social events and shared experiences continue to play an important role in confidence, wellbeing and maintaining connection throughout everyday life.

This Saturday marks World MS Day.

Multiple Sclerosis can affect individuals in very different ways, often impacting mobility, fatigue, coordination, cognition and day-to-day independence. Rehabilitation therefore requires approaches that remain flexible, multidisciplinary and tailored to the individual throughout their journey.

At Askham Rehab, we support individuals living with MS through specialist rehabilitation including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy, nursing support and wider multidisciplinary input, with rehabilitation focused on independence, symptom management and long-term quality of life.

Tomorrow marks Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day.

Spinal cord rehabilitation often involves complex recovery pathways requiring coordinated support across physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, hydrotherapy and wider multidisciplinary rehabilitation. Approaches need to remain structured, responsive and tailored to the individual throughout recovery.

At Askham Rehab, rehabilitation following spinal cord injury forms part of a wider commitment to supporting independence, adaptation and long-term outcomes through specialist rehabilitation and collaborative clinical practice.
