5 signs that you might need therapy:

1. You feel overwhelmed a lot - everything feels like “too much” and even small things feel draining.

2. You overthink everything - you’re replaying conversations and worry about the future constantly.

3. Your relationships feel difficult - there are often conflicts and communication issues.

4. You feel ‘stuck’ in life - you might feel like you have no direction or a lack of clarity. You want to change but you don’t know how.

5. You struggle to talk about how you feel - you’re not sure how to express emotions to people close to you, or are known for bottling things up.

Therapy isn’t just for those in a crisis. If you feel like you relate to these signs, talking to someone could help.

On Sunday we had a thought-provoking discussion about the importance of practicing self-care as a therapist. Anne Thompson led the talk, noting how the art of ‘doing nothing’ and active rest can be a form of self care and mindfulness. As therapists, it’s essential to actively practice self-care and protect your peace, because as mentioned, you ‘can’t pour from an empty cup’.

It is a vital tool for therapists to think about the existing resources they have to help you practice self-care outside of work, such as movement, nature, and hobbies etc. As therapists, it is almost in our nature to be naturally empathic, however it’s important to not let the empathy take over - think of yourself as one foot in with the client, one foot out.

Thank you to all the therapists who came to the talk on Sunday to discuss each other’s approach to self-care, and to Anne for leading the talk.

Spring is often associated with hope and renewal, however at a time of global political instability and anxiety, it is hard for us to adopt this mindset. Our newsletter touches on this, and also where human suffering can originate from.
