Happiness is found in a cuppa tea!
Sitting here in the market. It is 6:30 am. Stalls are opening and one owner called ‘Happiness’ has poured me a welcome brew. The sun is out. It hasn’t been seen properly for days. Happy days.

Today is General Election Day here in Zambia.

After weeks of feverishly busy, noisy and sometimes very intense campaigning, it feels remarkably quiet this morning. Perhaps that is no bad thing.

Zambia gained independence in 1964 and, thankfully, has never experienced war with another country. Yet elections can sometimes bring underlying tribal and political tensions to the surface, so today is a day to hope, pray and trust that the peace of this beautiful country will prevail.

As I continue my walk through Zambia, I have been struck again and again by the warmth, generosity and resilience of the Zambian people. I pray that whatever the outcome of today’s vote, those qualities will endure.

So today my prayer is a simple one:

For a peaceful election.
For wisdom for those who lead.
For respect between those who disagree.
And for a Zambia that remains united in its diversity.
