Stressors may show up in the body through the gut-digestive system. Stress can slow or disrupt digestion, causing symptoms like bloating, nausea, indigestion, constipation, or diarrhea.
It’s important to try to regain harmony and alignment, to prevent strain. The digestive system is an area where stress may be “landing” in the body rather than being processed emotionally.
Stress activates the fight-or-flight response, which diverts energy away from digestion and can slow the stomach or alter bowel function. That is why digestive complaints can flare when someone feels emotionally pressured, uncertain, or in relational conflict. In symbolic terms, there may be difficulty “digesting” a choice, relationship dynamic, or emotionally loaded situation.
