Action on Male Su***de is a new research-led charity founded by Dr Susie Bennett, an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow’s Suicidal Behaviour Research Laboratory.

The charity has grown out of Susie’s research exploring male su***de. Her work seeks to better understand the social, psychological and relational factors that can contribute to suicidal distress in men, the barriers men can face in accessing effective support, and what may help prevent su***de.

Action on Male Su***de was established to take this knowledge beyond academia -- bringing together research, lived experience and practice to improve understanding of male su***de, strengthen support for men and drive meaningful change in services, policy and communities.

Big changes to private renting will give tenants in Middlesbrough a range of new rights and protections.

Those renting homes from private landlords are now protected by the Renters' Rights Act 2025, a new law brought in by government this month.

Important changes for tenants and landlords include:

⏺ 'No fault' evictions have been scrapped, meaning landlords must now provide a valid legal reason to end a tenancy.
⏺ All tenancies are now rolling, giving tenants more flexibility to leave with two months’ notice.
⏺ Rent increases are limited to once a year, and tenants can challenge unfair rises.
⏺ Bidding wars between renters are now banned and upfront rent payments are capped at one month.
⏺ Landlords must seriously consider requests for tenants to keep a pet.
⏺ Stronger protections also mean landlords cannot refuse tenants simply because they have children or receive benefits.
