Concerned your child may have Autism (ASD) or ADHD? Please read before booking a GP appointment.

If your child attends school, a GP appointment is usually not the first step in seeking an assessment for neurodevelopmental concerns.

Schools and educational settings are generally best placed to identify and support children because they observe learning, behaviour, and social development every day.

✅ Speak to your child's teacher or SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) first.

✅ The school will normally put support strategies in place and monitor progress over time.

✅ If further assessment is required, the school can guide you through the appropriate referral pathway, including Community Paediatrics or the Early Awareness Pathway (where available).

🏠 If your child is home educated, referrals are usually made through the GP practice, and our team will be happy to advise you on the next steps.
