Coccyx pain — pain at the very base of your spine — is often shrugged off as "just a bruise."

When people think of RAD Clinics, they often think of injections and scans. But we also offer physiotherapy — and for many patients, it is an important part of the picture.

Physiotherapy involves the assessment and treatment of pain and movement conditions through physical methods: exercise, manual therapy, education, and tailored rehabilitation programmes, depending on your presentation.

At RAD Clinics, our physiotherapy service includes an initial assessment appointment and follow-up sessions. Your physiotherapist will review your history and symptoms, carry out a physical assessment, and develop a management plan with you.

Physiotherapy may be relevant if you have a new MSK injury, a longer-standing condition you want to manage more actively, or if you are looking to support recovery following an injection or scan.

If you have ever been told you need an MSK ultrasound scan — or if you are wondering whether one might be relevant to your pain — this is for you.

MSK stands for musculoskeletal, which covers the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints of the body. An MSK ultrasound scan uses high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of these soft tissue structures. There is no radiation involved.

At RAD Clinics, MSK ultrasound scans are performed by registered practitioners accredited with the Society of Radiographers and relevant professional bodies. The scan is non-invasive, involves a small handheld probe and water-based gel, and most appointments take 15 to 30 minutes.

A scan may be appropriate if you have persistent joint or soft tissue pain, a lump or swelling near a joint, or if you are being assessed ahead of or following an injection.

Lower back pain is one of the most common reasons people come to see us at RAD Clinics — and one of the most frequently under-investigated.

Many people live with it for months or years, cycling through periods of managing and flaring, without ever getting a clear picture of what is driving it.

At RAD Clinics, we assess lower back pain and offer a range of management options depending on assessment findings and clinical suitability. These include:

Trigger point injections — injections into specific areas of muscle tension that may be contributing to pain.

Nerve blocks — injections near specific nerves to help reduce pain signals in certain presentations. These are peripheral nerve blocks, not spinal injections.

MSK ultrasound — where appropriate, to help assess certain soft tissue structures in the surrounding area.

Physiotherapy — initial assessment and follow-up sessions for lower back conditions.

Wrist and hand pain is often dismissed as overuse or tiredness. But two conditions in particular are worth knowing about, because they have specific names, specific causes, and specific treatments.

De Quervain's tenosynovitis — pronounced deh-kwer-vains ten-oh-sin-oh-vie-tis — causes pain and swelling on the thumb side of the wrist. It involves irritation of the tendons that run along this area and is common in people who perform repetitive gripping or pinching movements. New parents carrying and lifting a baby are one of the more frequently affected groups.

Trigger finger — or trigger thumb — is a condition where the finger or thumb catches, locks, or clicks when bent, due to narrowing around the tendon sheath. It can be painful and limiting in daily tasks.

At RAD Clinics, we assess wrist and hand pain and offer MSK ultrasound where appropriate. We offer ultrasound-guided injections when clinically suitable, including cortisone for both conditions.

Summer is typically when foot pain flares. New trainers broken in too quickly, long days of walking on holiday, or months of flip-flops can all put significant strain on the structures of the foot and ankle.

Plantar fasciitis — pronounced plan-tar fash-ee-eye-tis — is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It involves irritation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs along the underside of the foot connecting the heel to the toes. The pain is often worst first thing in the morning or after periods of rest.

At RAD Clinics, we assess foot and ankle pain and use MSK ultrasound where appropriate to help look at certain soft tissue structures. We offer ultrasound-guided injections when clinically suitable, including cortisone and high-volume tendon injections for relevant conditions.
