Just a reminder that we are Dementia Friends!
This means we can now offer more in-depth dementia support for people who are deaf, hard of hearing and have visual impairments!

It's very important to invest in training for your staff and increasing awareness surrounding diseases like dementia.

Thank you Alzheimer's Society for the training, it has been invaluable!

Please get in touch if you, or a loved one need support in Milton Keynes https://www.bid.org.uk/locations/milton-keynes/

Alzheimer’s Society Staff member, Annlouise, recently delivered a Dementia Friends Session for Milton Keynes Sensory Services, a charity that supports children and adults living with a sensory loss.

β€œIn my role as Local Community and Volunteering Officer I deliver lots of talks and Dementia Friends Sessions, but this was a first for me. My session was delivered alongside a translator who provided British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation to improve its accessibility for Milton Keynes Sensory Services.

β€œWe discussed the benefits of early diagnosis, how healthy lifestyle choices can reduce the risk of developing dementia and how to access support.

β€œThey commented that they found the session really interesting and now feel more confident in supporting their service uses affected by dementia.”

Milton Keynes Sensory Services said: β€œThank you so much for such an interesting session - we really learnt a lot. We learnt how to recognise the symptoms of dementia, and how to offer support.

β€œMilton Keynes Sensory Services are officially Dementia Friends!”

We strongly believe that social media is for everyone!

Our marketing team have been busy working away in the background to create content to let you know all about our services, upcoming social groups and other events. We're very excited to share it with you all!

While all efforts are made to ensure our content is as accessible as possible by adding alt text to images, audio descriptions to videos and contrasting colours in our graphics and British Sign Language (BSL) translations, we understand that people have different accessibility requirements.

Please do not be afraid to ask for something in a different format - we are more than happy to accommodate (this includes any content you come across on our website too!).

And if we've really missed the mark with a social media post, please call us out on it! You can comment directly under the post, send us a Facebook message or email our marketing team: [email protected].

Everyone say hello to Pauline πŸ‘‹πŸ½

She is our wonderful Team Manager here at Milton Keynes Sensory Services! We are fortunate enough to have had Pauline as part of our team for over 12 years and throughout her time here, she has supported many service users, as well as lead a successful team of talented individuals!

"I started in 2013 and my proudest achievement is achieving a level 5 award in management and leadership and passing level 2 BSL. As a deaf person, I find it empowering working for a sensory impairment charity. In my spare time, I crochet, do gardening and travel.”
