I tried to search for one of my su***de awareness poems this morning because today is World su***de prevention day but the search took me straight to a helpline screen with thoughts, numbers and ways to find hope. No matter how I worded my poem search - this screen was all that came up. I still don’t have my poem.

And actually, that made me very happy. Because it felt like an insistent friend refusing to leave the door until they heard my voice. It felt like care, the kind that is often annoying and in your face but is actually a life-rope pulling you out of the depths to shore.

I’ve know l what it is to feel hopeless and wish I wasn’t here. And I know what it is to lose someone to this too.

I fear su***de. Because once the idea is in someone’s brain it can become an overriding mission. It’s why I write so much and talk so much about mental health and its ways of stripping us bare.

If you are worried about someone or if you have forgotten what hope is. Why life is worth living, please reach out to the experts who diligently strive every day to save so many. They care. They have the formula to get back to a place of safety where hope can find you again.

There is always, always, a new day waiting. And the very best moments of your lives are often ahead, waiting like gifts to be unwrapped.

My friend, you’re not alone. We are all connected by invisible threads of soul. And armies of ancestors pulse within your cells. You are not small. You are a part of every single thing that exists.

Tug an invisible thread today if you need to, and reach out to a visible one too. You are so needed. So wanted. Please stay. Until you see how wondrous you are, please just stay.

Donna x

Had fabulous friends from my time in Bali visiting this weekend and took them to my clinic. It was a cherished moment as I showed them items from Indonesia 🇮🇩 gifted by our mutual friends. I did really bring Asia home with me! At the end of their stay they gifted me this wonderful video montage!

“How does it work, that something 2000 years old is alive? Alive means it can change and yet it’s the same in a certain way. It’s like a stream, a river. A river starts somewhere and goes somewhere. Chinese Medicine also changes all the time. That’s what I call a Living Tradition.” Volker Schneid, China Today

A living tradition: not fixed, not frozen, but flowing. This is what I consider in my acupuncture practice. Each patient, each treatment in a state a flow, observing changing pulse, response to each needle, until the patient is calm and healing.

Yin hiding Yang solar eclipse. Remember this is a natural phenomenon.
Yang is still present even when it can't be seen, it's just temporarily concealed.
As yang is hidden, everything slows and stills,.so should you.

You could use it as a little Yin-Yang exercise in observing yourself.

Before the eclipse
Notice your energy.
Notice your mood.
Notice whether you feel internally busy or quiet.
Notice your breathing and body tension.

During the eclipse
Slow down if you can.
Sit quietly for a few minutes.
Let yourself experience the unusual change in light.
Pay attention to how your body feels rather than trying to interpret everything.

Afterwards
Notice whether you feel different — more settled, stimulated, tired, emotional, peaceful, etc.

So pause, observe, allow the balance to change and importantly, allow it to change back and move towards the natural yin of the night.

Did you know that I hold a specialism in Facial Acupuncture?

Here I’m releasing some pre- holiday masseter muscle tension (TMJ) and calming my nervous system before flying off to seeing friends in Spain 🇪🇸 tomorrow. Even Acupuncturists get a little tense 😬

I treat facial conditions such as Bells Palsy, Trigeminal Neuralgia, TMJ, Bruxism and more.

Hayfever, blocked nose, sinus issues?

These acupuncture points are effective at immediately opening up the nose and giving relief 😮‍💨 to my patients.

Because I hold a specialism in facial acupuncture, I can swiftly pop in these points alongside some constitutional ones to nourish the body.

It’s harvest time here in Northumberland so there’s lots of dust in the air. Please don’t suffer. Head in to clinic soon 🙏

Wow, this sacred ceremony pre the Jo Mac Acupuncture clinic opening was 1 year ago today!

Over the coming weeks, I will reflect on the many blessings that this wonderful year in clinic has bestowed upon me. I feel truly honoured to have helped so many patients with their health issues. After living in Asia for 15 years, a timely visit from my dear Bali friend allowed me to open the clinic in the spiritual way I wanted it to continue.

A heartfelt thanks to every patient who has come in for treatment over the last year.

Lots of my patients say that they grab a banana 🍌 on the way out of the door. I then extol the virtues of alternative fruits that aren’t so easy to run out of the house with, but here’s why:

Bananas are considered a damp-forming food in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). If you experience bloating, sluggish digestion, excess mucus or a heavy feeling, reducing damp-forming foods may help (depending on your individual constitution).

TCM focuses on balance, so what works for one person may not be right for another. 🍌
