An important step forward for Awareness and women’s health!
We are pleased to share the news that updated guidance now recognises Pregnancy Associated Osteoporosis - PAO UK as a rare type of .
PAO can occur during pregnancy or in the postpartum period and, because awareness remains limited, diagnosis can sometimes be delayed. For some women, this can mean experiencing significant pain and multiple fractures before the condition is recognised.
This is therefore an important milestone in helping to raise awareness of PAO, both amongst healthcare professionals and the wider public, and hopefully supporting earlier recognition, diagnosis and better care for women affected.
A huge well done to Pregnancy Associated Osteoporosis - PAO UK and everyone whose lived experience, clinical expertise, research and advocacy have contributed to this important step. đź’ś
We also look forward to the first Pregnancy Associated Osteoporosis Awareness Day on 9 September (9/9) – another opportunity to continue raising awareness and learning together 🙌.
