What does it mean to work the core in Pilates? It’s not just the abdominal area but strengthening that back chain is central. I love pulling straps and spend a lot of time talking about lengthening through the spine in order to freely work from it. I think you’ll all agree Kate has nailed it! As a hard working hairdresser she needs strong back muscles so I have developed a program just for her focussing on lengthening and strengthening- can’t wait to see how she enjoys it. Every new client has a full assessment for FREE. I’m old school and really want your Pilates program to be targeted just for you. So I spend an hour taking a full history and learning about you and your goals. I do an assessment of where you are at: posture, mobility and strength then once we know your goals and readiness I develop a program just for you. And I see results.

I see clients first have a greater awareness of their own body and their own breath pattern. I see clients let go of pain, lengthen their spine and start to improve their functional fitness. From athletes to us mere mortals Pilates really works.

If you want to start to learn more about you and your physical intelligence drop me a line and let’s book you in.

Looking forward to meeting my next new client in a few minutes so I’ll sign off. Jo x

One of the best pieces of advice I was given when first setting up my Pilates studio in 2020 was to not buy matching reformers. Counter the usual approach but it actually really has made sense. The wonderfully thoughtful Lonneke Lyle of said that no one client is the same so having access to different sized reformers means I can better match my clients. And I have found that to be so helpful.

The larger wooden is perfect for my taller clients but also the softer padded carriage is lovely for my clients with osteoporosis or those who feel discomfort on hard surfaces. The slightly more athletic and original is great for us shorties and makes some of the advanced exercises more accessible. You will be able to use all my equipment is you sign up to a 121.

As and when I buy my third reformer it may well be the . Which do you prefer and why?

What was the best piece of advice you received when setting up your studio?

Thank you

Footwork on the reformer! Absolutely non negotiable for us. It not only gives a very clear picture of how our clients are showing up that day (weaknesses, imbalances) but it also connects you through the back body (when taught correctly) and puts you in charge of the springs and not the other way around.

Not using momentum but rather connecting through the feet (in this case the base of the toes, wrapped around in flexion) leads to strong feet and wide awake legs for the next exercises.

Do you switch off during foot work? You won’t with us - and as you can hear we love our clients being in charge of their own bodies and the reformer giving us verbal feedback as to how different it feels that day or being done in the way we cue.

Pulling straps - I absolutely love this as it always fires up the back. Organising the body is the crucial first step lining up the heels with the pelvis, the back and the head. Using the magic circle helps connect the mid line too, engaging that all essential inner thigh.

I always think Joseph had a thing for the tricep and this variation shows it, but as with many Pilates exercises it’s a full body work out - mind body connection at its best.

Thank you to my young client who consented to me using this photo. We teach Pilates to all bodies who want to feel that connection to self 💜

Back to work after a long weekend on Anglesey soaking up to sun rays and the good vibes. Always great to see my Pilates equipment and know I’m bringing the Pilates system to Nantwich.

Did you know our boutique studio has been here since 2020? We have taught over 60 people in this town the principles of Pilates including help three lovely students become qualified teachers themselves!

If you are serious about learning this amazing system don’t hesitate to reach out we have a few free slots on Tuesdays and Wednesdays including after work/school.

Do you often feel dizzy? I certainly have done over the years and several of my clients have. It’s just awful 🥴

We are all set up here to help you improve your balance and the component parts of that. Pilates is always recommended for improved balance but many of us struggle with lying down or getting back up again. Being a 121 boutique studio means we develop a programme of rehab just for you and provide a slowed down safe environment.

This Spring a couple of spaces have opened up for Wednesday mornings.

If you are thinking of trying Pilates look no further than our beautiful Pilates studio here at Regents Park, London Road, Nantwich. I’m here enjoying the beautiful blossom.

I opened the studio back in 2020 when not so many people knew about Pilates equipment and thought I was setting up a torture chamber 🤩

I’m so happy more and more people are enjoying Pilates but know from experience a lot of us feel better learning something new in a safe beautiful space. We offer 121 and duets with a number of pieces of Pilates equipment including reformers, chair and arc.

Come check us out and enjoy the beautiful flowers and trees on site. As Joseph Pilates himself said ‘By all means never fail to get all the sunshine and fresh air you can.’
