As the week comes to an end, Iām reminding myself of something I often talk to clients about during Solution Focused Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy sessions, wellness, health and massage/ beauty sessions in general...
Life isnāt just about getting through the to-do list, ticking off the next task or constantly striving for more.
Sometimes, we need to give ourselves permission to pause.
To slow down a little. Step away from the screens and the noise of everyday life. Find some āme timeā. And take a moment to simply be.
This week has been full of conversations about feeling overwhelmed, stressed and under pressureā¦
āI canāt possibly take time out.ā
āBut what if I donāt do this or that?ā
āThereās just too much to do.ā
That pressure we put on ourselves can be enormous. Thereās always something else we think we should be doing.
But itās also been a week full of wonderful achievements, little steps, big steps, wins and wows! ā¤ļø
Iāve celebrated with clients who are sleeping better, experiencing less anxiety, getting back to exercising, eating better and doing things that once felt impossible.
One client proudly told me that her social diary is now so full: āThanks to you!ā š
That made me smile so much.
This is someone who struggled with social anxiety, worried she wasnāt interesting enough and often felt she had far too much to do to go out and enjoy herself. And now look at her!
Another client said, āIāve been looking forward to my CACI treatment for three weeks ā just the chance to lie down for an hour and completely switch off.ā Another had missed her regular massage sessions because she had so much going on, until even her husband asked, āWhen is your next massage session?ā Sometimes, itās the people around us who notice just how much we need that time to pause, recharge and take care of ourselves.
Progress isnāt always dramatic.
More often, itās found in the little things.
Sleeping through the night.
Feeling calmer.
Going for a walk.
Doing something for you.
Saying yes to something you would previously have avoided.
Saying no to somethingāor someoneāwithout feeling guilty.
Sometimes, progress is simply feeling more like yourself again.
And recently, after the devastating loss of my beloved Mum and retreating from the world a little, Iāve realised that I need to practise what I preach too.
For me, that means coming back to the 3 Ps I talk about in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy: positive thoughts, positive actions and positive interactions.
Not huge changes. Just small, positive choices that help me reconnect with myself, with other people and with life again.
Meeting a friend I havenāt seen for a while. Going to a friendās house for pizza. Barre Pilates. Working towards an enhanced qualification for my business. Finally tackling the garage and putting things on eBay and Vinted, going for a massage! making tasty, wholesome soups to give me some nourishment and energy throughout the weekāand hopefully help with lowering my cholesterol after a recent blood test showed it had crept up, oh and quality time with my fluffy babies...
Nothing earth-shattering.
But perhaps thatās the point.
Looking after ourselves doesnāt always have to mean making huge changes. Sometimes itās the ordinary, everyday things that quietly make us feel a little better, a little stronger and a little more like ourselves.
Whatever this week has looked like for you, I hope youāre able to find a few moments to pause, recharge and notice whatās been good.
Because the small things count too. ā¤ļø
Happy weekend!
