I know we've had an incredible summer in Wales, sunshine, long days and more time in the garden than I've had in years.

And yet, I find myself longing for a different kind of light.
I think I just love the romanticism of every season.

And perhaps that's why the seasons find their way into so much of what I do: my soaps, my food, my garden, even my mood.

September is also when the workshop starts to change pace. It will be a busy one.

This batch of Geranium & Bergamot was supposed to have the layers the other way around.

But when I cut the loaf, I rather liked the result.

White underneath. Soft pink on top.

Perhaps I'll call it a happy accident.

Each bar is unmoulded, cut, cleaned and stamped by hand before it goes onto the curing shelves.

The purple comes from an alkanet infusion, with a little lavender from my garden on top.
And now comes the hardest part for a soapmakerโ€ฆ

This summer has been a little different here at The Narberth Soap Co.

We've been incredibly lucky with the weather in Wales, and I've found myself spending more time than ever in my garden, growing, pottering, picking a little lavender, and simply enjoying the season right here in my own back garden.

It has been wonderful to slow down a little and enjoy summer rather than constantly thinking about what's coming next.

And that slower pace has made me realise something about the business too.

I'm busy getting everything ready for ๐”๐’๐Š, while also preparing the new seasonal soaps and I've decided not to launch a separate Autumn collection this year.

Instead, I'm going to move gently from summer into the new season and concentrate on developing the Christmas soaps properly.

For a small maker, these little changes can make a surprisingly big difference.

Less rushing.
More time to develop each soap.
More breathing space in the workshop.
And hopefully, a little more time to enjoy the garden too. ๐ŸŒฟ

After all, one of the reasons I love making things by hand is that I don't want everything to feel rushed.

So, for now, I'm taking things one season at a time.

And there are some rather lovely new soaps taking shape behind the scenesโ€ฆ
