🦴 Strong Bones, Strong Future 🌿
Today is World Osteoporosis Day, and I want to shine a light on something that deserves more attention — the connection between women's hormonal health and bone health.
Did you know that around 1 in 2 women over 50 will experience a fracture related to osteoporosis during their lifetime?
As oestrogen levels decline around menopause, bone loss accelerates. Yet many women aren't aware of this until much later in life.
The good news? There is plenty we can do to support our bone health! 💚
💪 Strength and weight-bearing exercise
🥗 Good nutrition, including adequate protein, calcium and vitamin D
🌿 Healthy lifestyle habits
⚖️ Understanding our hormones and the role of HRT where appropriate
🩺 Knowing our individual risk factors and when to seek advice
Bone health is particularly close to my heart because of my own experience of premature menopause, being diagnosed with osteopenia when I was 28 and navigating hormone replacement from a young age.
I believe that understanding what's happening in our bodies gives us the opportunity to make informed choices about our health.
It's never too early — or too late — to start looking after your bones.
Swipe through for some important facts and practical ways to support your bone health.
And if you know a woman who might benefit from this information, please share it with her. 💚
