Today we are introducing who will be showing her work this weekend (a joint exhibition with )

Amanda's work features drawings made from her own photographs, taken during walks in the Hampshire countryside. Landscapes and nature have been her focus over the years, and for Connected her pieces depict trees. She seeks out subjects with visual drama, and those that echo traditional tales.
“Trees hold or evoke countless stories," Amanda explains. "The old stories, with their ancient, stylised wisdom, are an important part of mankind's diminishing connection with the land. My own connection with the land is something I am trying to remake, and trees are a good symbol for that, with their long lives and connecting roots.

A little more on each piece from Amanda - these and others will form part of the show.

“Chorus Line” - Beech is traditionally the "queen of the forest" (oak is the king), and this group of trees are definitely the drama queens of the forest. The steep slope that forms the edge of their stage is as revealing as any stage costume as erosion uncovers roots and reminds us of the vulnerability of these majestic entities.

“Sinuate” - Beech seem to be especially good at roots. These must be longer than their parent trees are tall. From the track that runs through this chasm in Wiltshire, the trees are certainly insignificant compared to the writhing creatures that the roots have evolved into.

“Gatekeeper” - This stand of beech is to be found at the entrance to Danebury hill fort. The location, colours and wonderful array of evocative root-shapes are all, quite literally, fantastic.

“Sway” - Hornbeams dance to the song of the forest. These trees are rapidly becoming my favourites. They seem to insist on growing at strange angles, which makes me think of them as both stubborn and humorous.

Did you have a fabulous weekend? We hope so.

Today, we want to tell you a little more about the artist who will be showing her work at the Connected show (joint show with ) at our beautiful venue venue this Weekend coming (link with info in stories)

Maria’s current collections are created using scanography. Many mistake them for oil paintings, because of their painterly feel and unique look. Maria says it is like combining the Old Masters and modern technology.

Many of her pieces for Connected, are of flowers she has grown in her garden. She poses them just like people, using years of experience as a portrait photographer. She uses nature to explore connections we have to each other, often broaching difficult subjects like loss, or conflict, but also joy, and love.

“I am absorbed by our connections,” Maria says. “The connection we all have to each other, to ourselves, and to our partners. The floral portraits I create often illustrate a story - something that I may have experienced, heard, or something I feel strongly about or resonate with. The human condition fascinates me. Psychology weaves its way through my work."

Main piece - "Entangled"
swipe right for crop of “Coming Together” ( you will need to come along to see the full image on display at a huge 60” by 40”) “TO have and to hold” & " The Sunflower"
"The Sunflower' is a price Maria is donating to the sealed bid auction on Friday night. More on this later!

We hope you are having a fantastic Easter Weekend so far!

It’s getting busy for us at the Lightroom, and we are excited to tell you more about the Connected exhibition, by &

The exhibition starts on Friday 22nd of April at 10am, and continues until 4pm on Sunday 24th of April.

We hope this extract from the Artist’s press release arouses your curiosity.

“Both Amanda and Maria use their life experiences with relationships, grief, adversity, and joy to inspire their work, which is made using unusual techniques.

Amanda's work features drawings made from her own photographs, taken during walks in the Hampshire countryside. Landscapes and nature have been her focus over the years, and for Connected her pieces depict trees. She seeks out subjects with visual drama, and those that echo traditional tales. Amanda uses a variation on traditional pen and ink and illustrators' scraper board. She uses light-fast pigment inks on a kaolin-coated board, which allows her to add and remove ink - effectively drawing in both positive and negative, black and white.

Maria’s current collections are created using scanography. She uses a flatbed scanner to scan real flowers, giving the finished images a very unique look. Many mistake them for oil paintings. Maria says it is like combining the Old Masters and modern technology. Her pieces for Connected, are mostly of flowers she has grown in her garden. Her florals are posed just like people, using years of experience as a portrait photographer. She uses nature to explore connections we have to each other, often broaching difficult subjects like loss, or conflict, but also joy, and love. The key is move something inside the viewer by connecting to an emotion”

There will be a Special Viewing on the Friday evening, more on this, and on the individual artists in the next posts.
