Tension-type headache is the most common form of headache โ roughly 1 in 3 adults experience it. It typically feels like a constant dull ache on both sides of the head, often with stiffness at the back of the neck and tenderness around the temples. For many people, the pain builds gradually through the working day, particularly after prolonged screen time or sitting.

Hours of desk work push the head forward of the shoulders. This forces the small muscles at the base of the skull โ the suboccipital muscles โ and the upper trapezius to work far harder than they should. These muscles have a unique feature: they connect directly to the membrane surrounding the brain through what's known as the myodural bridge. When they tighten, they pull on that membrane, which is what creates the headache you feel in your temples and forehead.
This is exactly why painkillers provide only temporary relief. They mask the sensation without addressing the muscular cause. Research published in Disability and Rehabilitation found that screen time exceeding four hours per day significantly increases both headache frequency and severity.
