Today, the Knife Angel arrives in Newark.

Newark is today welcoming one of the UK’s most powerful and thought‑provoking public artworks: the Knife Angel, a 27‑foot sculpture made from more than 100,000 seized knives and weapons.

From today, Tuesday 21 April, until 20 May 2026, the Knife Angel will stand in front of Newark Town Hall, making Newark the first town in Nottinghamshire to host this nationally significant installation as part of the UK National Youth Anti‑Violence Tour.

Created by the British Ironwork Centre, the Knife Angel took over two years to complete, with police forces across the UK supplying more than 200,000 confiscated blades, twice the number required. Many of the knives forming the Angel’s wings carry the names of victims and personal messages from grieving families, making the sculpture not only a striking work of art, but a deeply moving memorial.

This matters, and it matters now. Knife crime affects communities large and small, and the Knife Angel’s presence in Newark is a powerful reminder of the importance of prevention, education and standing together as a community.

The public are invited to gather for the official opening ceremony and first illumination of the Knife Angel at 8pm on Thursday 23 April, a poignant moment marking the start of its time in the town.

During the installation’s stay, visitors will also be invited to write a message of reflection on a ribbon, which will be attached to the railings surrounding the Knife Angel for the duration of its visit, allowing people to reflect, remember and show solidarity.

A comprehensive programme of workshops, school sessions, events and training will run throughout the Knife Angel’s stay, helping residents understand how to spot risks, support others and report concerns wherever they visit in the UK.

Working alongside We Are Newark, You Can Do Sport Academy, Newark College, Newark and Sherwood District Council and Your CVS Notts, a full month of inspiring community events, educational activities and meaningful conversations has been planned while the Knife Angel is here.

Now recognised as the UK’s most‑travelled monument, the Knife Angel has already visited more than 50 towns and cities, including Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester, reaching millions with its anti‑violence message.

Now, it’s Newark’s turn.

Quick one for anyone who needs it.

The group is on tonight.

If things have been building up…
If your head’s been busy…
If you just need to get out of the house for a bit…

Come down.

No pressure to speak. No pressure to share your life story.

Just sit, have a brew, listen, or chat if you feel like it.

Sometimes just being around other lads who get it is enough.
