Hello from resting Fionn 👋🏼
A version of me I’m still getting acquainted with. 🤣
I have always found it a challenge to rest. It’s a lineage thing too. My Dad was always busy, so that became my benchmark.
So yeah, I’m very good at doing. Creating. Thinking. Planning. Starting something because I’ve had an idea while supposedly doing absolutely nothing.
And I’ve been thinking about how that constant cycle of doing isn’t only something we inherit. It can also become a way of surviving. Keep moving. Keep busy. Keep finding the next thing to do. Because when you’re doing, you don’t necessarily have to stop long enough to feel.
And maybe that’s why stopping to rest isn’t always as easy as it sounds.
Sometimes you stop, but everything inside you is still going. The urge to be productive. The feeling that you should be doing something and the almost automatic reach for the next thing. Or, in my case, you become a fidgeting meerkat checking things.
The urge to be productive feels addictive. It’s like you know you should stop, but can’t seem to step out of the cycle.
This month I’ve had to have a lot of patience with myself, giving that doing part of me enough space to settle into a slower rhythm.
As a recovering ‘doer’, as I jokingly called myself the other day, it’s been interesting to observe myself and how tetchy my inner doer got. I’ve gave her space to get loud and then settle. It wasn’t easy at first, but it’s working! She is less loud now!
And I’ve found myself wondering if this is how my Dad felt too. Was he caught in the same cycle without ever really knowing how to get out of it?
And is this how you feel? What happens inside you when you actually try to stop and rest?
So, hello from resting Fionn.
She’s still drinking coffee, still having far too many ideas, and occasionally needs reminding that “I’ll just quickly…” is usually how the trouble starts. 🤣
She has been reading, disappearing down rabbit holes 🐰🌑 and painting roses, spirals, fossils (according to my friend’s little one 😂) or whatever other interpretation you have. 🌹🌀
Wildest of love xx
