At Kirsty Harris Physiotherapy we provide expert Physiotherapy consultations and treatments tailored to all your musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and sports injury needs. Hi, I’m Kirsty Harris, an experienced musculoskeletal physiotherapist passionate about helping you recover from pain, injury, and surgery. I qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from the University of Huddersfield in 2005 and

have worked in a variety of settings, including the NHS, private practice, the Ministry of Defence, and sports physiotherapy. I started my career working in NHS hospitals across South Wales, treating patients both on the wards and in outpatient clinics. Early on, I developed a strong passion for musculoskeletal physiotherapy, which led me to progress into senior NHS roles. I developed my skills to become an Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Practitioner at Royal Berkshire NHS Trust, where I had the privilege of working closely with a world-renowned shoulder professor at the Reading Shoulder Unit. In this role, I was responsible for assessing, treating, and rehabilitating patients with a wide range of complex shoulder and upper limb conditions, many of which were both challenging and fascinating. In 2014, I moved into locum work, primarily within the Ministry of Defence, where I worked as a Senior Physiotherapist in residential rehabilitation, outpatient clinics, and multidisciplinary assessment teams. My role involved treating military personnel with a wide range of sports-related and general injuries, as well as rehabilitating soldiers with life-changing injuries, supporting their transition out of the forces and helping them plan for their future as civilians. Alongside my clinical work, I have always had a keen interest in sports physiotherapy, providing pitch-side cover and injury management for amateur and academy-level rugby teams. Throughout my career, I have developed a wide range of expertise, combining hands-on treatments, rehabilitation techniques, and personalised exercise programs to help my patients recover, move better, and stay pain-free. My skills include:

✅ Mobilisation & Manipulation
✅ Acupuncture, Dry Needling & Injection Therapy
✅ Pilates (Trained with APPI – a world-leading provider)
✅ Shockwave Therapy & Taping
✅ Developing tailored rehabilitation and exercise programs

I love working with people from all backgrounds—whether you're recovering from surgery, managing an injury, or simply looking to improve movement and prevent pain. I particularly enjoy teaching classes and empowering my patients to take control of their health and well-being.

Stiffness or pain in your Achilles, especially first thing in the morning or after a run? Achilles tendinopathy responds well to Shockwave Therapy, particularly for those stubborn cases that haven't settled with rest and stretching.

This isn't shockwave alone — your initial consultation (£75) includes a full assessment and a personalised rehab plan, and if you go ahead with a block of 4 sessions, your consultation is free and the block is just £275, combining Shockwave Therapy with progressive rehab at every session — a saving of over £120 on our usual pay-as-you-go price.

Sharp heel pain first thing in the morning, or after sitting for a while? That's a classic sign of plantar fasciitis — and Shockwave Therapy is one of the most effective non-invasive treatments available when rest and stretching haven't been enough.

Pain just below the kneecap that flares up with squatting, running, jumping or stairs? That's often patellar tendinopathy — "jumper's knee" — and Shockwave Therapy is one of the most effective treatments when it hasn't responded to rest alone.

Knee Osteoarthritis isn't one joint problem — it's actually two.

One of the most common things patients ask me is: "Why does my knee pain feel completely different to my friend's, when we've both got osteoarthritis?"

It sounds like OA should feel the same for everyone...

But the knee is actually two separate joints — the main tibiofemoral joint (the knee), and the kneecap joint (the PFJ).

Pain at the front, around the kneecap? That's often the PFJ. Pain along the inner or outer side? That's often tibiofemoral.

Knowing which one's involved helps explain exactly where and when your symptoms show up.

Told you have osteoarthritis? Here's what that diagnosis doesn't tell you.

One of the most common things patients say to me is: "I've been told I have osteoarthritis — does that mean I'll need a knee replacement eventually?"

It sounds logical...But a diagnosis alone doesn't predict that at all.

I've seen patients with significant changes on their scans who have very little pain. And others with fairly mild changes who are really struggling.

A diagnosis is a starting point for understanding your knee — not a prediction of your future.

🏌️ "I'm worried my golfing days are numbered."

It's something I hear surprisingly often from golfers who develop knee pain.

Sometimes they've been told they have arthritis.

Sometimes they've had an MRI showing "wear and tear."

Sometimes they're simply finding that walking the course, tackling slopes, or playing multiple rounds is becoming more difficult.

The problem is that many golfers assume knee pain automatically means they need to stop playing.

In reality, that's often far from the truth.

Over the years, I've worked with many golfers who have continued enjoying the game they love despite arthritis, previous injuries, surgery, and ongoing knee problems.

That's one of the reasons I've created my latest free guide:

🏌️ **Keeping Golfers on the Course Despite Knee Pain**

Inside, I cover:

✅ The 7 most common mistakes golfers make when managing knee pain

✅ Why stopping activity completely is rarely the answer

✅ Practical physiotherapy strategies to help you stay active

✅ Simple exercises to improve strength, balance and confidence

✅ How to manage flare-ups more effectively
