PeterPan Centre for Children with Special Needs We give children with special educational needs and disabilities the best start in life

At the Peter Pan Centre we are dedicated to life-changing care and education for children with special educational needs and disabilities and the support their families deserve. At our centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme we support children aged 0-5 through weekly specialist Education, Care and Development sessions that follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework, delivered by our team of dedicat

ed and caring expert Specialist Practitioners. At Peter Pan we are here for the whole family through our Family Support Service with advice for the home, weekend social activities, training courses on topics such as sleep or first aid, help with form-filling, support with transitions and specialist stay and play sessions at five locations across Stoke and North Staffs. We were awarded Outstanding in all areas by Ofsted for the fourth consecutive time in August 2022. We recently won the local ‘Your Heroes – Inspiration in Education’ Award for the difference we make to children and families across Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent and Cheshire East.

🌿🐾 A Lovely Day at Peak Wildlife! 🐾🌿
We had a fantastic trip to Peak Wildlife with our children and their families last Tuesday! Despite the weather being a little wet at times, it certainly didn’t dampen our spirits 🌧️😊
It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the day, exploring the park, and making special memories together. The children had a brilliant time meeting the animals and sharing the experience with their families – lots of smiles all around! 🐒🦙
A big thank you to Peak Wildlife Park for such a lovely day, and a special thank you to Stantons of Stoke for helping us get there safely and comfortably 🚌
We are so grateful for opportunities like this that bring our families together – rain or shine! 💙

If you are interested in volunteering please get in touch with us to see what opportunities are available - whether you are volunteering as an individual, a business, a sports team, a school - we'd love to hear from you!

As we near the end of Volunteers' Week 2026 we want to thank our volunteer Claire for all her hard work supporting our Stay and Play groups over the last 4 years.

“Peter Pan has always had a special place in my heart from when they supported me and my family when my son attended at the age of one. It gave me the opportunity to meet other families who were in similar situations, and the support that we received from the team was so positive and nothing was ever too much trouble, it made such a big difference to our journey."

Claire explained why she chose to volunteer with Peter Pan: "My son left to go to school when he was 4, and now I have the amazing opportunity to volunteer with the team, to help to give other families the support that made such a difference to us."

You make such a difference to our children and families Claire, thank you!

Today we focus our thanks on volunteer Jason, who has been working with the Peter Pan Centre since 2019.

Jason looks back on his journey with Peter Pan:

'My son is a Peter Pan graduate. My lived experience with him and his needs made me realise that there is a massive shortage of men in early years settings. When Jayden moved on to school, I started volunteering at Peter Pan, which then led me to work as one of their Specialist Practitioners for a number of years."

Eventually Jason's caring responsibilities meant he couldn't work with the team anymore, but he was determined to continue helping the charity so took on his volunteer role again with us once a week.

He told us, 'It is so rewarding to see the difference the help and support we provide makes to the children and their families. All the staff here are lovely and supportive, helping to make Peter Pan a truly magical place.'

Thank you so much Jason, we are so lucky to have you!

We continue thanking our amazing volunteers during Volunteers week, this time recognising the fantastic efforts of Alex Bradshaw, who has been volunteering with the Peter Pan Centre for the last two years.

Alex originally joined us on a marketing work experience placement in partnership with Keele University as part of her degree course. We were thrilled when she wanted to continue as a volunteer helping with fundraising and marketing. Since then she has designed marketing materials, undertaken research tasks, helped with vital administration and dressed up as both Little Red Riding Hood and a bunny to read to children as part of our annual Storython! She even took part in our Bungee Jump last October and raised hundreds of pounds.

We can't thank you enough Alex - you are a superstar!

It's Volunteers' Week this week! A time to honour the incredible individuals who form the backbone of the charity sector: our amazing volunteers. 🥳

Today we welcome two fantastic new volunteers, Jodie and Claire, both parents of children with SEND who have benefited from the Peter Pan centre. They bring valuable lived experience to help support our Stay and Play groups and we are so lucky to have them!

Claire tells us, "as a parent graduate of Peter Pan Stay and Play, I’ve experienced the fabulous support and inclusive environment Peter Pan offer, and I would love to return that to other parent carers who are on the same journey. The kindness, advice and support I received during our time in the playgroup meant a great deal and my son looked forward to coming every week, made friends and I found genuine connections with other parent/carers and some of the best tips and suggestions came from that very group. Paying that forward along with sharing my own gathered experience is extremely rewarding."

Jodie explains, "The Peter Pan Centre holds a very special place in my heart. The help, care and support my daughter, myself and my husband received really is immeasurable. I found during mine and my daughter's journey, that other parents/carers, who have lived and breathed this ‘life’, have given some of the most valuable advice, ideas and have been able to provide such reassurance about what’s to come. If volunteering and sharing my experience to other families provides them with even the slightest bit of reassurance or support I feel that will be incredibly positive."

Thank you for joining the team Claire and Jodie! 💜

We are so pleased to have been one of only 257 charities across the UK to be chosen for this year's Big Give match funding campaign during Small Charity Week (22nd-28th June). In 2025 189 charities raised over £1.8 million overall!

With the growing pressure small charities are facing, as demand for support rises and resources become increasingly stretched, this opportunity will make a huge difference to the Peter Pan Centre. But what is it? 🤔

If you are thinking of donating to the Peter Pan Centre soon we ask that you wait until the week of 22nd June to do so and use our special link. Why? Because when you make your donation online using the site then that donation is 'matched' by the campaign and therefore doubles your donation at no extra cost to you or us! So if you donate £5 it turns into £10, £10 it turns into £20, £50 turns into £100 and so on. We are aiming to raise £7,500 from supporters which equates to £15,000 in total.

Whether you are an individual, a community group, a business, a Trust........you can make big things happen by supporting us during that week. 👏

Here is the link to our charity page, but it will not be active until the 22nd June, and then only open for ONE WEEK. We will send out a reminder during that week. Thank you in advance if you are able to help us in any way. This is a rare time we can get national visibility to create local change where it matters most - supporting young children with SEND and their families to get the best start in life. 💜

We are raising funds to support our children with special educational needs and disabilities (aged 0-5) who attend the centre. The specialist care, education and development sessions we deliver every morning and afternoon will give them the best start in life.…
