There are lots of different types of play! ๐ For some autistic children, play might look different than others.
Your child may enjoy playing independently, revisit the same activity again and again, or prefer certain toys and interests.
If they're safe and having fun, then how they choose to engage in play should be respected, and all types of play can be encouraged! ๐ Here's some examples:
๐ Exploratory Play โ looking at, feeling, and mouthing objects.
โก๏ธ Cause & Effect Play โ learning that actions create results, like pressing a button to make a toy pop up.
๐ Functional Play โ using toys in the way they were designed, like pushing a car.
๐งฉ Constructive Play โ working towards a goal, like completing a puzzle.
๐ Physical Play โ running, jumping, climbing, and moving.
๐ง Pretend Play โ using imagination and make-believe, like playing shopkeeper.
How does your child like to play? We'd love to hear in the comments. ๐
