Kate Disley - Movement, Sport, Performance Sports Rehab Therapist
BASRaT certified
MSc Sports Rehabilitation I have over 15 years hands on experience working as a Sports Massage Therapist.

I hold a sports degree from Durham University and I'm a Gold Member of the SMA. I trained with the APPI (Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute) in both Matwork and Performance Pilates. I have worked with several sport teams as well as individual athletes from elite runners and cyclists to junior gymnasts, squash players and local harriers’ groups. With a background in Sports, I have tried m

ost things, previously playing elite level Rugby Union for over 20 years. I too have suffered my share of injuries so I have a huge amount of compassion and understanding when treating sports injuries. I offer Pilates on a one to one basis and in a class setting at various levels. My Performance Pilates classes are renowned among my patients as being challenging, supportive and focused to help improve sports performance.

I absolutely love having .rachael in the gym…even though she does give me a fair bit of stick on a weekly basis 😂

It’s been a pleasure to see her confidence grow alongside her strength gains and build her running back up so consistently.

One of the most determined and headstrong people in the group she’s an inspiration to many clients.

Keep up the good work .rachael … or I will sneak some more weights on when you’re not looking 😂

Last week I had the opportunity to be part of the Strength in Focus event, delivering workshops on strength training for runners with a focus on the female athlete.

A great couple of days at the Matrix showroom in Reading—definitely outside my clinic comfort zone, but I’m so grateful I said yes.

Loved connecting with like-minded people, sharing ideas, and having important conversations around how we can better support and improve female strength training in commercial gyms. 💪

Since the new year, I’ve been trying to be consistent & practice what I preach with my training.

I am 40+ female working full time and have 2 children. Alongside this I have a history of injures from high level sport, childbirth, caesarean, hip surgery and hormones to work around. The joys of being female!

I’m not training for a certain sport or event, just life and mental and physical health.

I spend a good chunk of my sessions “warming up” before I lift anything heavy. Focusing on hip stability, thoracic mobility and preparing my body to lift.

I superset nearly everything as I’m often short of time and don’t do a high volume of other sports these days.

I’ve learnt the hard way that I can’t just train like I used to. Accepting this was hard but my body is feeling the benefit.

At the end of the month I am having a trot out for my first full contact rugby game in over 10 years.

This is in aid of at Vets Fest 2025

As well as catching up with old friends and having a run about we are raising money for this wonderful chairty that support children and young people with disabilities or facing disadvantage across the UK and Ireland through the power of the rugby community.

If you’d like to donate the link is in the bio. You can also support by coming along on day to and joining in the festivities 🥳

I made a cake at the weekend for my daughter, simple but effective. Baking is not my forte but everyone likes cake…and everyone should feel they can eat cake.

Cake is not a ‘bad’ food.
There are no bad foods…strap yourself in for this one…

If someone could pass this message on to the online hyrox coach who told my patient she should not eat porridge as it gives you cellulite and has prescribed a restricted 1800 cal/day (less on non training days) to a 27 year old female athlete training 10 times a week that would be great.

If we could also let the previous physio know that it is not “normal for female athletes to miss periods” 🤬

And the GP that a history of stress fractures, a tendency to overtrain, disordered eating and irregular periods are all red flags for REDs.

Astounded and angry that this patient has been given misinformation to the detriment of her physical and mental health by other healthcare professionals.

We must do better!

I’ve written a little blog about running performance, injuries and how we use .ai technology as part of our assessment

I’m using the same technology as past of my dissertation looking into how we can affect running performance through exercise prescription 🤓

So far the data is showing positive impacts on global running economy, improvements in stability in the stance phase of gait and a greater ability to attenuate ground impact forces…basically it appears to make you better at running and probably less likely to get injured 🥳
