📢 May was a busy month for our Diabetic Eye Screening team!

Across 33 of our community and clinic sites (plus our mobile OCT van!), we booked 5,491 appointments.

Here's what happened:
✔️ 3,923 attended
❌ 1,146 didn’t attend
🔄 433 cancelled or arrived late

Your eyes matter. Your appointment matters. And you matter to us.

If your time, date or location is not suitable, please let us know! We're always happy to rearrange.
A quick call or message means we can offer that slot to someone else who needs it, and it means the slot is not going to waste.

• 12 years and over
• Registered diabetic with your GP
• GP within, North Tyneside, Newcastle, Northumberland or Gateshead

Free Diabetes UK Lunch & Learn Sessions

As we head into Diabetes Prevention Week and Diabetes Awareness Week, Diabetes UK are running some free 1-hour Zoom sessions for anyone who would like to learn more about diabetes.

The sessions will cover:
• Different types of diabetes
• Who may be at risk
• Early signs and symptoms
• Tips on living well
• Support and resources available

Everyone is welcome, so please feel free to share this with friends, family, colleagues or community groups.

TODAY Tuesday 28th April between 10am and 12pm our Pelaw branch will be hosting a Diabetic Eye Screening Awareness team.

Having diabetes increases your risk of developing eye problems. Retinopathy often has no symptoms in its earliest stages. By the time you recognise changes in your vision the disease can be advanced. If left undetected it can lead to sight loss and blindness. Regular eye screenings can detect diabetic retinopathy early to prevent progression.

The NHS recommend patients with type 1 and 2 diabetes who are 12+ years get eye screenings every 1-2 years. If you are diabetic and notice any changes in your vision it is important to seek medical care immediately.
