Voice UK Community

Voice UK Community We all have lived experience, wisdom and ideas to share. Share your insights to improve the lives of people across the globe.

By joining our Voice Community you can contribute yours to shape a future led by the needs and aspirations of real people. Our story began in 2007, when Professors Lynne Corner and Jim Edwardson first established Voice® after working on a UK Government Office for Science report on Valuing Mental Capital through the life-course. In our daily work, we saw every day the immense wisdom, knowledge, and

experience of older people, many of whom were retired, and recognised what an untapped pool of talent, imagination and creativity was locked in this ever growing group of people. We recognised that many people have a lifetime of lived experience – from ‘living life’ but also professional experience – often 30, 40, 50 plus years working in a myriad of different sectors and roles. And it was clear that people want to connect, are keen to share their experience, exchange perspectives and eager to make a visible and meaningful difference, both now and for the future. So, our purpose was simple – to help make this happen, harness experience and wisdom as an asset and value this incredible and collective capability & capacity - creating a thriving global community of “innovation & research ready citizens” for better addressing global challenges and realising the opportunities around healthy longevity. Regardless of your age or background, we ALL have unique experiences and skills. Join Voice® today to contribute yours to shape the research and innovation of tomorrow.

🫂 Most of us will care for someone we love at some point in our lives. Many of us will also need care ourselves.

This , we're reflecting on the work of the Internet of Caring Things (IoCT), our programme that brings together citizens, carers, innovators, researchers and businesses to explore new ways to improve care and help people live well for longer.

Over the years, IoCT has worked with hundreds of organisations to better understand people's needs and develop products, services and ideas that can make a real difference to everyday lives.

❤️ From supporting family carers and creating more caring communities, to exploring how technology can help us stay connected, independent and well, the programme has shown that there is no single solution to care.

But by listening to people's experiences, understanding their needs and working together across sectors, we can find better ways to support one another.

👇 We're sharing a story about how members of the Voice community are helping shape the future of care through the IoCT programme.

🌍 Can we have healthy longevity on an unhealthy planet?

It's a simple question, but perhaps one of the most important of our time.

Our health is shaped not only by healthcare, but by the environments we live in, the communities around us and the planet we all share.

That's why climate change isn't just an environmental issue. It's a healthy longevity issue too. Our latest This Curious Life article explores why the future of longevity and the future of our planet are deeply connected.

💬 "I like feeling that I'm contributing to something. It's a way of giving something back."

It's in the UK, and we're celebrating the incredible people who make Voice® possible.

💡 Our members generously share their time, experiences and ideas to help shape the future of how we live, work, connect and age.

But volunteering isn't just about giving. Many of our members tell us they gain something too: new ideas, new perspectives, a sense of purpose, and the chance to be part of something bigger.

Perhaps that's the best kind of volunteering. Good for others, and good for you too.

If you're curious about the future and would like to help shape longer, better lives for all of us, we'd love to hear your voice.

❤️ Join the Voice community today and become part of the conversation shaping the future of ageing.

Through our Global Conversation on Friendship, we’ve been exploring what helps people feel connected across longer lives, and time and again, community keeps coming up.

In this beautiful This Curious Life story, Hal Burlingame reflects on what home really means:

💬 “It’s not just about where I presently live, but the memories, relationships, and experiences…”

💙 When Katherine’s mum, Jo, was living with dementia, even a simple trip to the shops could feel overwhelming. So Katherine decided to do something about it.

Her idea? Slow Shopping, a movement helping to make public spaces more inclusive, welcoming, and dementia-friendly. 🛒

This , we’re sharing Katherine’s story from our magazine, This Curious Life magazine.

Through our Internet of Caring Things (IoCT) programme and by working with our Voice members at Grainger Market, Katherine explored how small, thoughtful changes can make a world of difference.

Things like quieter spaces, clearer signage, somewhere to sit, and a gentler pace can help people feel more comfortable, confident and included when out and about.

It’s a powerful reminder that kindness, patience and thoughtful design can go a long way.

It’s a reminder that dementia shapes not only health, but everyday life, relationships, families and future planning too.

💙 During , we’re reflecting on how we can create a future where people feel supported, informed and able to navigate later life with dignity.
