Fit For Forty Updated Goals

Due to a knee injury playing football a few months back, which doesn’t look like it’s going to get better anytime soon, I’ve decided to take out a few challenges that my knee currently won’t allow me to do.

❌ 40kg overhead squat x5
❌ 5 pistol squats each leg
❌ 2m+ standing broad jump
❌ 200m AirRunner under 30 seconds

Surprisingly, box jumps are fine on my knee. Well, not 100%, but they’re okay enough to do, and squats are manageable, so I’ll still be working towards both of those goals.

If my knee gets better before January, I’ll look to work towards the others again, but as it stands that’s not looking likely.

Sometimes you have to change your goals and that’s totally fine. There’s no point trying to force them and potentially making yourself worse.

I’m also changing my target weight from 85kg to 88kg or under. I think that will be a better weight for me to still achieve the strength goals whilst being happy with my weight and the way I look.

Still 22 challenges to achieve, so plenty of work to do before turning 40 💪

Upper-body strength tests from yesterday.

100kg bench press — 2 reps. Need to add another 8 reps to reach my goal.

70kg push press — 2 reps. Need to add another 8 reps to reach my goal.

12 pull-ups. Another 8 to reach my goal.

12 dips. Another 8 to reach my goal.

Can I do it by January?

Time to restart working towards my fit for 40 goals.

Football injuries knocked me off track the past few months.

I’m way behind where I thought I would be especially squats and deadlifts.

Not everything goes to plan but still enough time to build up and achieve them.

Time to refocus and start focussing on those fit for 40 goals.

Can’t remember the last time I haven’t lifted weights in 3 weeks.

Even though I missed it, it was still hard to force myself to lift weights.

Do you know what’s way harder, feeling weak, low in energy and feeling crap.

It’s tough after a bit time off the gym, but just do it as it will make you feel loads better.

6 weeks holidays means less time to train so have to make the most of every workout to get my Myzone points this month and next.

Will have to incorporate cardio into my weights workouts to keep my heart rate up.

What will you do to make sure you stay on track in the 6 weeks holidays?

One good workout.
One good meal.

Is all it can take to get you back on track with your health and fitness.

Don’t underestimate the power of one positive choice. One good workout and one good meal can leave you feeling more energised—and when you feel better, motivation often follows.

Just realised why I had no motivation to train yesterday.

Could it be why you have no motivation too?

15/07/2026

Really couldn’t be bothered to train today.

Sat for 30 minutes trying to find the motivation to train.

Still didn’t want to train.

Finally said to myself, stop being a little bitch and get on with it.

Went to set up the bench press.

Saw the 40kg dumbbells that I haven’t lifted in over 3 months after injuring the ligaments in my thumb, so I thought let’s see if I can lift them. Even one rep would be good.

It was probably more laziness I went for the dumbbells because I couldn’t be bothered to set up the bench press. I thought 1 or 2 reps with the 40s, although heavy would be less effort than doing 10–12 reps on the bench press.

Managed to do 6 reps, which is what I could do a few months back before the injury. Not bad considering I haven’t lifted heavy on the bench press in months.

Felt motivated again and went on to have a good workout.

Even if you don’t want to train, even if you can’t be bothered, even if you feel tired… just do it.

You never know, you might do better than you think and end up having a great workout.

I could’ve easily gone home and skipped training, but instead I gave something hard a go, succeeded, and instantly felt better and more motivated.

Don’t listen to the voices in your head telling you not to do it.

Just do it.

This is what 80 and fit looks like.

This is what 80 and strong looks like.

This is what never using age as an excuse looks like.

This is what 11 years of consistency looks like. 💪
