✨ Catch up with our membership team!

Our Membership Executive Gemma spent Wednesday at the Care Show Birmingham, catching up with members, making new connections, and hearing some insightful conversations around Technology Enabled Care (TEC).

She said “It was fantastic to see so many of our members exhibiting and showcasing the innovation happening across the sector.

One session that particularly stayed with me focused on Confidence in AI amongst care workers hosted by Care Workers Charity. The discussion highlighted several very real concerns that organisations need to address if AI is to be successfully adopted in care settings:

- Fear of job losses
- Limited training and support
- Lack of co-production with frontline teams

Practical challenges such as poor connectivity and reliance on staff using their own mobile data
It was an important reminder that technology alone is never the answer. Success comes from how it is implemented, supported, and embedded into day-to-day practice.

On the other side of the conversation, it was inspiring to hear how Nightingale Hammerson approached their TEC implementation. Their focus on engagement and co-production stood out.

TEC suppliers spent time working shifts to understand the realities of care delivery, residents and staff were consulted before, during and after go-live, and the emphasis remained firmly on outcomes and benefits rather than the technology itself.

There is some valuable learning here for all TEC suppliers. When we take the time to understand the people who will use the technology, we are far more likely to achieve meaningful and lasting impact.”

The conversations at reinforced just how important it is that we continue bringing providers, commissioners, technology partners, and frontline colleagues together to learn from one another.

📢 Have your say! What should the TEC sector be preparing for next?

The technology-enabled care (TEC) landscape is changing rapidly. New technologies, evolving expectations and emerging challenges are creating both new risks and new opportunities for our sector.

That’s why we are asking you to share your views through the 2026 TEC Sector Survey of Risks & Opportunities.

A big thank you to everyone who has already taken part. If you haven’t yet, there’s still time to have your say before the survey closes on Wednesday 30 September.

What are we asking?
We want you to identify and prioritise the top 10 risks you believe will have the greatest impact on the TEC sector over:
• 1–2 years – short term
• 3–5 years – medium term
We’re also interested in the opportunities you see emerging and where the sector should be focusing its attention.

All responses will be treated confidentially and individual responses will not be attributed to named individuals in any reporting.

This webinar will focus on the practical journey that follows.

We will explore what it takes to move from strategy into delivery, from developing a compelling business case and securing senior sponsorship, through to co-designing new ways of working, engaging the workforce and embedding TEC within everyday practice.

It’s been a busy and inspiring week for TSA at the CHS Annual Conference in Nashville 🇺🇸

Our Chief Executive, Alyson Scurfield OBE, has been delighted to attend the conference, representing TSA and sharing the work we do across the UK to support our members and the wider sector to enhance and enable people’s everyday lives through Technology Enabled Care.

It was also a fantastic opportunity to connect with members from across our sector who were also attending, including Hellen Bowey, Mark Hindle, Ryan O’Donovan, Romain Miquel, Oli Cox and Christophe Durozard, alongside colleagues from Attentive, Cognitive Solutions, Essence, Mobius Networks, Seenyor, Telecom Design, Tunstall and Yokeru.

We were particularly delighted to see TSA member Cognitive Solutions recognised with the Innovation of the Year Award. 🏆 A fantastic achievement and a true recognition of the innovation and impact of their work.

Today, Alyson took to the stage to chair the panel discussion, ‘The Global View: Aging, Technology and Policy Innovation’, alongside our members.

With populations ageing and workforce pressures increasing, health, care and housing systems around the world are exploring new ways to support people to live independently, safely and well for longer.

The panel explored how technology, housing and innovative models of care can help shift services from reactive responses towards more proactive, preventative and personalised support.

Drawing on experience from the UK, the discussion explored the journey towards more integrated approaches to Technology Enabled Care.

It was also an opportunity to look beyond the UK and consider how data, emerging technologies and international innovation can help services identify risk earlier, better understand individual and population needs, and deliver more proactive support.

A huge thank you to CHS for inviting TSA to be part of this important international conversation, and to all of our members who joined us in Nashville.

It has been a great opportunity to share the work happening across the UK, learn from international colleagues and continue building connections across the global Technology Enabled Care community.

📢 TSA Housing Commission: call for evidence

TSA has established a new Housing Commission, supported by Tunstall Healthcare, bringing together leaders from housing, health, care and technology, alongside people with lived experience. The Commission will develop a practical Blueprint exploring how housing data, digital infrastructure and technology enabled care can help identify risk earlier, support prevention and strengthen resident services. To inform its recommendations, the Commission is seeking case studies, examples of best practice, research findings and lived experiences that demonstrate how technology is supporting housing providers and residents. 🚀Closing the TEC confidence gap

Technology Enabled Care (TEC) can make a real difference to independence, wellbeing and everyday life, but to make that impact, staff need the confidence and knowledge to know what’s available, what it can do, and when it could make a difference.

Across the sector, that confidence isn’t always consistent. TEC can sometimes feel technical, specialist or separate from everyday care practice, meaning valuable opportunities to support people can be missed.

That’s where TSA’s Virtual Home comes in 🏡

Virtual Home gives staff a practical, interactive way to explore TEC in familiar home environments. Moving through different rooms and scenarios, they can see how technology might support someone with falls prevention, medication, environmental monitoring, safer living, communication, daily routines or support for unpaid carers.

And the impact speaks for itself...
- 13,000+ people across the UK have used Virtual Home
- 95% increased awareness – 95% of learners completing the e-learning courses reported having a good or increased level of awareness of TEC following completion.
- 95% increased knowledge – 95% of learners completing the e-learning courses reported having good or increased knowledge of how TEC can be used following completion.
- 39% increase in quality referrals – Work undertaken with Local Authorities in the Northeast demonstrated a sustained
- 39% increase in quality TEC referrals following completion of the courses. These referrals were reviewed by TEC teams and were identified as appropriate, with the resulting TEC packages delivering measurable improvements to the quality of life of the people receiving them.

With TSA’s Virtual Home securing funding through the skills for care impact fund, to further develop and expand the Virtual Home programme, strengthening workforce confidence, improving consistency in Technology Enabled Care decisions, and supporting better outcomes for people drawing on care and support.
