With over five years of experience as a gym owner and trainer, I have assisted hundreds of clients in both 1-2-1 and group settings to enhance their health and fitness. Throughout this journey, I observed that establishing a regular exercise routine is often one of the easier challenges - the real struggle often lies in nutrition.​

Having obtained a diploma in Advanced Nutrition Science from the world-renowned Mac-Nutrition, I have a detailed understanding of the nutritional theory and behaviour change techniques to support a wide range of clients. Lovely feedback from Joanne, a new 1-2-1 client I have been working with recently 💜

Following an in-depth consultation, we came up with a solid plan to suit her lifestyle and move her closer towards her goals.

Joanne has taken all of my advice on board, trusted the process (which involved hiding the scales…) and has made fantastic progress in just 3 short weeks.

Today we refined the plan to ensure over the next 3 weeks, we keep moving towards that end goal 👏

I’ve seen a lot of these recently, so I thought I’d see how my diet fares on a random Tuesday in May 😬

What I eat on a workout day ⤵️

Breakfast:
The meal that sets me up for the day following an early morning workout. Protein powder mixed into Greek yoghurt helps to boost protein intake of my breakfast, which will in turn aid recovery. Meanwhile, grapes, homemade granola and honey add much needed carbs to restore post-workout glycogen levels.

Lunch:
Usually something quick, easy and tasty. Today this looked like leftover Sunday lunch with chicken, potatoes, carrots and leeks. Focus on keeping chicken portion relatively high - by increasing protein % of meal I will feel fuller during the afternoon.

Evening meal:
Bolognese with hidden veg (onion, carrot, celery). Again higher portion of bolognese, smaller portion of spaghetti and a side salad for extra micronutrients.

Snacks not shown: Apple, Babybel, Diet Coke 😉

All in all, this comes to approx 1,650 kcals, 105g protein, 28g fibre and a good mix of fruit and vegetables 💪

A lovely Friday morning of client check-ins 💜🌿

Following the initial deep-dive consultation and plan development, these regular check-ins are a great way of keeping client accountability high, reviewing progress against goals and making a solid plan for the next couple of weeks to move us closer to where we want to be.

New research suggests that your gut has more influence on your brain than previously thought…

1️⃣ The gut is connected to the brain via the longest nerve in the body - the Vagus Nerve

2️⃣ When our gut is ‘unhappy’ it is now believed that it signals to the brain to release various different hormones, some of which can significantly affect our mood (in a negative way)

3️⃣ My top tips for supporting a healthy gut:

👉Reduce stress where you can
👉Improve your sleep (7-9 hours a night minimum)
👉Eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables
👉Incorporate a range of herbs and spices in your meals (your gut LOVES them!)
