It’s an important reminder that care is individual. Every patient needs something different to feel supported and we should never underestimate the difference that feeling supported (or not) can make.

What to Expect in Early Recovery: Deep Plane Face & Neck Lift with CO2 Laser Resurfacing.

Please Note: Photographs taken at 10 weeks post-op.

Recovery after a deep plane lift is gradual and this is a great example of the early stages of recovery.

This patient had a preservation deep plane face and neck lift, a deep neck reduction for enlarged submandibular glands and CO2 laser resurfacing for sun damage and skin quality. Her goal was to restore facial and neck contours softened by ageing and the volume loss (lipoatrophy) that often follows menopause.

What to expect in the early weeks and months:

🔹 Swelling takes time. With a lift and CO2 laser combined, residual swelling typically takes 10–12 weeks to settle.

🔹 Gravity moves swelling downwards, so it often collects in the neck. This is normal and resolves with time (see arrow).

🔹 Skin improvements show early. Smoother, brighter skin is often visible before the final contour.

🔹 The jawline and neck angle will continue to sharpen over the coming months.

🔹 Final results take 6–12 months, which is when we review outcomes.

At 10 weeks, this patient is still healing and her result will continue to refine. We will share progress so you can see how the jawline sharpens.

Having shared a number of patients over recent years with Kim from Kim Aspin it was a pleasure to finally meet on her visit to observe deep plane surgery.

Last week at our dedicated Facial Surgery Institute The Beverley Hospital we performed four primary face and neck lifts - all deep plane surgeries, yet no two are the same.

There is no single unified ‘deep plane operation’. Many patients believe they’re getting a deep plane procedure… and they may not be.

Across these four patients, we tailored a different combination of treatments:

▪️ Deep neck reduction
▪️ Microfat grafting
▪️ Net sutures (see Patient 1)
▪️ CO2 laser resurfacing
▪️ Eyelid and brow surgery
▪️ Partial reduction of the facial salivary gland (parotid)
▪️ Transposition of the deep facial fat (buccal fat)

No “lift” is ever the same, every patient is unique and there is no ‘set piece’.

Thank you to all four patients for allowing us to share, it helps demonstrate just how much these operations can and should vary.
