Home from a busy week working at Bearded Theory festival, & this is the only photo I took!

A combination of Bowen Therapy, massage & reflexology (eughhh, festival feet!!🀣) sessions were given to revellers in need of nurturing.

A healthy dose of dancing was had & much hydration was needed to combat the heat!!πŸ’¦β˜€οΈ

I'm having a gentle week with just a few clients now to recuperate, hide from the heat & enjoy half term, but I will be back to normal clinic hours next week.πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ–€

Wow, straight after national gardening week we jump into International Compost Awareness week, what a treat!

What needs composting in your life?
Are there any beliefs or thought patterns, behaviours or habits you are holding on to that could be preventing you from living your life fully, both physically & emotionally?

These could be;
*beliefs about your physical pains or issues that you have adopted because you've been told "it's all part of the ageing process"
*negative thought patterns or beliefs holding you back from doing the things you love or the things you would love to try
*negative self-talk
*lack of clarity around your boundaries in personal & work relationships
*projects, jobs, actions, friendships, beliefs or habits that have run their course & no longer align with you

In my bodywork clinic I frequently see clients walk through the door with pain issues that are intricately linked to their beliefs, habits or emotional world.

Some of these clients have already begun their journey of composting what is holding them back, coming to me to help them reconnect with their body on their journey of self development.

Others are not yet consciously aware of their own mind-body connect.
Some of these people find their bodywork sessions become a composting catalyst - the point at which an emotional shift is triggered & they begin to take steps to break down the old patterns that no longer serve them, making way for healthier ground from where they can begin to flourish.

My approach is always holistic - whatever the pain issue, I ask what else is going on in the client's life & inner world - what needs composting? What are they ready to compost? What extra support would they need to go through that process?

Curious to find out more?

The Bowen Technique (also known as Bowen Therapy) is a bodywork technique for relief from acute & chronic pain, muscular tension & restricted movement.

Elly applies gentle pressure & a rolling type move, with thumbs or fingers, over specific points around the body, triggering responses from the nervous system & the fascia (connective tissue). Each session is interspersed with therapeutic breaks, an essential part of the treatment process, during which time the brain & body can begin to make necessary adjustments in soft tissue tensions without interference from the practitioner.

As a holistic bodywork practitioner Elly looks at the body & the person as a whole - her consultations involve an in depth look at your medical history, lifestyle, sleep quality, emotional states, postural assessment, movement assessment etc. Any piece of your story could potentially hold the key to the issues you are looking for help with.

Clients are recommended an initial course of 3 to 4 sessions spread over several weeks for maximum benefit. Many choose to return for "top ups" as & when they feel their body needs it.

Each session leaves clients feeling truly deeply relaxed, perfect for frazzled nervous systems!
My people often report results such as decreased pain levels, increased mobility, a greater sense of wellbeing, a feeling of re-connection with their body & a sense of feeling more regulated.

If you have been curious for a while about this technique but not sure what it's all about, now is your chance to experience it & understand more so you can decide if it is right for you.

Elly will be joining us on Tuesday 5th May from 4-8pm offering 30min try-it-out sessions. Each 30min session will include a mini consultation to discuss your current issues & a hands on treatment for you to experience this technique.

Booking is essential. DM for link

It's national gardening week this week, & what a way to begin it, with heaps of sunshine!

Here are some tips to prevent soft tissue injuries while engaging in physical activities in your garden haven:

🌿 be sure to warm up & warm down before beginning your gardening- a stroll around or up & down the land before & after can help warm up your muscles & soft tissues

🌿 build up your workload gradually over several days - if it's the 1st time in a while you've got in the garden to work avoid going in heavy on the jobs! Start off with easy tasks & leave the heavy duty ones until your body has got used once more to all the twisting, bending, kneeling & heavy lifting

🌿 task share - can you ask for help from friends, family or your community with some of the more physically demanding jobs? Perhaps you can reward your helpers with produce from your veg patch, a nice bunch of cut flowers you have grown or a meal you have cooked for them

🌿 prepare your body now for the season ahead with a series of bodywork sessions to get on top of any compensatory postural or movement patterns accumulated during the winter months, helping to protect yourself from gardening related injuries

Enjoy your garden week! πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ–€πŸŒΏβ˜€οΈ

Did you know your Temporomandibular joint (TMJ), more commonly known as the jaw, is the most used joint in your body?

Talking, eating, yawning, singing....all rely on multiple movements of this joint each day, resulting in overuse & strains in the soft tissues involved in normal TMJ function.

Add to this the impact of multiple dental procedures (requiring keeping the mouth open for lengthy periods), stress (leading to jaw clenching & teeth grinding), & previous head/neck/jaw injuries, all of which can create soft tissue trauma, restrictions & imbalances which can effect normal jaw function & lead to pain.

Common symptoms of TMJ disfunction can include;
Pain around the joint, upper/lower jaws, cheekbones, forehead, temples
Frequent headaches or migraines
Neck pain or restricted movement
Trismus (limited mouth opening), bruxism (teeth grinding/clenching)
Shoulder pain or restricted movement
Jaw misalignment
Pain in upper/lower teeth with no traceable cause
Tinnitus, brain fog, ear congestion
Plus more...

Additionally, the TMJ & pelvis directly mirror each other, so it's not uncommon to find TMJ & pelvic/hip imbalances co-existing.

Time for a recap of the services I offer to bring you out of pain & into whole body balance....

The Bowen Technique
TMJ Therapy
McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release
Massage
Reflexology

The Bowen Technique is a light touch technique which works with your body's fascia (connective tissue found throughout the body) & your nervous system, helping to relieve pain & restricted movement while increasing overall wellbeing.

Rather than focusing solely on the area you are experiencing pain, a Bowen Therapist looks at the whole body to unravel compensatory patterns of movement or posture to support you in your recovery from acute & chronic issues.

As a holistic therapist a Bowen Technique practitioner will take into account your history of injuries & surgeries, lifestyle factors & emotional state when planning your bespoke treatment.

A course of treatments is always recommended to feel the full benefit of the technique & secure lasting results.
