Sly customers are tricking Cornwall pubs, shops and Facebook sellers with fake cash - but police say there are a few tell-tale signs to look out for to swerve the scammers.
St Austell Police in particular say officers have seen an increase in counterfeit cash being used to purchase high-value goods across Mid-Cornwall.
Fake bank notes have been used to buy items at local shops and pubs, as well as in online marketplace purchases.
Multiple fake notes have already been seized by officers and police are investigating further.
St Austell Police warned shoppers, sellers and business owners to look out for buyers spending a small amount of cash but using a large note to pay for it, to receive genuine change.
Officers also say counterfeit notes might also be mixed with real cash to create a false sense of security.
The force urges anyone who suspects they've been handed counterfeit cash to report it to police. It can also be handed in at a police station.
The neighbourhood team continued: "If you have any information about the use or distribution of counterfeit currency, please contact us quoting reference 50260121965.
"Remember to remain vigilant when buying or selling items - take a moment to check over the cash."

The shop transformation is coming along nicely, lots of new crystals on the way to fill the units, and only one week left until it is finished ✅️ We had an incredible live stream on monday evening and our next one is tonight, Wednesday 10th June, 6pm - 10pm over on tt, so why not come by and see the new set up so far and chill out with my beautiful community.
