Good Medicine in Challenging Environments is an annual event aimed at bringing together healthcare professionals and students from all disciplines across the Southwest and nationally to learn and practice medicine in challenging environments with the end goal of improving the care of our patients. History

Good Medicine first started in 2015 when the Peninsula Wilderness & Expedition Medicine Soci

ety approached Brian Adamson who enthusiastically organised the first event teaching medical and paramedic students practical skills. Ever since Good Medicine In Challenging Environments has continued to grow and develop, becoming bigger and better each year. We aim to run a annual weekend at the Newquay harbour and welcome anyone interested to join our page and watch this space!

Dear Attendees, Friends, Colleagues, and all the GMICE Community,

We have news.

GMICE in April 2020 couldn't happen. We'd hoped we would be able to come to you in October - I don't think anyone will be surprised when we say that this also isn't going to happen.

But, GMICE in 2021? Well we think that is going to work. We've got proper time to plan, we have an idea of what the maximum restrictions are likely to be, and if things are able to open up a little more, then that will only be a bonus.

This week, our core team had their first meeting. We have a plan, we have a timeline, and we all now have the ability to work remotely in a way that has simply never been true before. GMICE in 2021 will be different. It will be socially distanced where it can, and safe where it cannot. It will be slick and tight in a way we've not managed in the past. It will still be fun, educational, and challenging. It will still be about bringing together likeminded students and professionals to share our skills, experience, and community.

It will still be GMICE.

We know that a lot of people are wondering about tickets. If you have a ticket that you bought for GMICE 2020, and you can and want to come in 2021, then we will honour that ticket, and we will be hugely excited to see you there. If you can't, or would prefer not to, attend then we are going to set up a first come, first served, ticket resale programme. Simply let us know that you don't want to come, and we'll add your ticket to the pile for resale for 2021. As soon as your ticket has been sold on, we'll refund you.

We've all had a rough few months and we're just getting back on our feet.

In spring 2021 GMICE will be there for you to look forwards to, get excited for, and enjoy.

Come join us.

If we can help in any way, we're still here, or at [email protected]

Today would have been the day we'd all travelled home from GMICE 2020. Instead, many of our faculty and attendees have been on the front lines of this pandemic, whether at work, as volunteers, or graduating and registering early and entering their chosen professions.

We're always grateful to meet and know such an amazing group of friends and colleagues, but never more so than this weekend when we haven't been able to see you all.

When we know how this is all going to pan out, we will work out when we can come together as friends and colleagues again and do what we would have done this weekend: learn, teach, challenge, and support each other. Maybe we won't need quite so much of an introduction to the concept of challenging environments though...

Whether you're all geared up at work, and old hand coming back for one last turn, a student being unexpectedly plunged into their profession, a volunteer, or just doing your bit by self isolating, stay safe, keep well, and we will see you all on the other side.

You'd better believe the BBQ is going to be out of this world.

GMICE Committee.

Hello all,

We've been made aware that a few folks have not been getting our emails. This may be because we often bcc them to you to avoid sharing everyone's email with everyone else, so please check your spam filters. If in doubt, give us a quick message on here and we can always answer questions that way.

On a personal note, thank you to everyone who has messaged or commented with kind words about postponement. We're gutted too, but we're glad you mostly seem to agree it's the right thing to do, and it's nice to be told so, so thank you.

See you on the other side...

Adam

Dear Attendees, Faculty, and Colleagues,

It is with regret that I write to inform you that the organising committee has taken the difficult decision to postpone GMICE 2020 in view of the current outbreak of COVID-19.

We intend to delay until Autumn 2020 based on current public health intelligence that the outbreak is likely to last around 12 weeks and in order to allow 6 weeks from the commencement of new training posts in August for medical colleagues to arrange leave.

Please see below for the full text of our email to our attendees, faculty, and partners and if you have any further questions please send us a message or email at [email protected].
