The collagen finding the adverts skip: in one 16-trial analysis the benefits faded after 48 — elasticity held, hydration and smoothness didn't. Where the money goes instead if you're over 50. Follow for the ageing-skin research from someone with no supplement to sell.

Prof Cliff Rosendahl has sent a message ahead of next month’s masterclass. He works in Brisbane, at the highest melanoma incidence on the planet. First 30 years of practice: very few melanomas found. The 17 years since he started using dermoscopy: over a thousand diagnosed. On 24 October in Belfast he’s presenting on the melanomas that matter — the nodular, the thick, the ones mistaken for infections, and the small subtle ones that still caused harm. Plus Chaos & Clues in four steps, and the geometric melanoma sign. With dermatopathologist Dr Simon Clark, at the Europa Hotel. Link in bio.

If you work with skin, you’ll have seen it. A client mentions a mole, or you spot something while you’re treating them, and there’s a moment of doubt (or fear!) is this fine, or is this the one I shouldn’t miss?

Most of the time it’s nothing. But “most of the time” isn’t a system.

That doubt matters more for skin and aesthetic professionals than most people realise. Your clients assume that if something were wrong, you’d notice.

Knowing how to recognise the lesions that matter, and when to say “I’d get that looked at” protects them, and it protects you.

On Saturday 26 September I’m running a foundation course at the Europa Hotel in Belfast on recognising skin lesions. It starts at the beginning, so no dermoscopy experience is needed. You’ll leave with a clear method for telling the harmless from the ones that need a second look, and knowing exactly when to refer.

It’s open to skin and aesthetic therapists, nurses, pharmacists, podiatrists and GPs — anyone who examines skin and wants more confidence doing it.

Places are limited and it’s filling.

Flew to London today to meet Dr Karan Rajan — a doctor and surgeon with over 10 million followers across social media. I graduated in 1999, when the internet was barely a thing, so I’m here to learn how to do this properly. Genuinely grateful to the 90,000 of you who follow along. Now I want to hear from you: why do you follow, what do you want more of, and what could I do better? Tell me in the comments. Follow for skin advice from a GP skin doctor.

Chronic stress raises cortisol. Cortisol slows collagen production and speeds collagen breakdown at the same time — a double hit. It also weakens your barrier and wrecks your sleep, which makes all of it worse. The fixes are simple: movement, mindfulness, and time in green space. Join my newsletter — link in bio.
