4️⃣ DAYS TO GO

This Saturday is a very important day for our members Mark and Alison Stevenson, who recently lost their son Cruz. As a gym community, we’re privileged to host a fundraiser in his memory. We’re asking volunteers to row, bike and ski 30 minutes each, until we reach 1500km, the distance travelled to and from the Royal Victoria Hospital during Cruz’s 12 day battle.

Even if you aren’t taking part in the exercise, you’re very welcome to come along to hear John Harrison singing from 2-4pm. There will be a BBQ, ‘Lick’ ice cream 🍦, Southpoint Coffee,☕️, a bouncy castle for the nippers and plenty of craic! The day kicks off at 11 and will run to 5pm.

It’ll be donations on the day, so there’s no cost to come along. All proceeds will go towards the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Belfast.

❌ DON’T DO IT ALONE ❌

There are so many benefits of training but one that is often overlooked is the social aspect of training alongside others 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒

Many people start their fitness journeys for numerous reasons, some of the most common tend to be:

🔹Lose weight and tone up.
🔹Reduce the risk of heart disease and or diabetes.
🔹Improve cardiovascular health.
🔹Achieve a specific athletic goal like run a 5km race.

More often than not, along the way there are other benefits seen unrelated to the specific starting reason. An example is making lifelong friends and having a wee bit of craic along the way.

A lot of our small and large group training members start off with a specific goal, then they get to know other members from training alongside them. Hold one another accountable & become friends for life.

We have seen so many friendships form over the past 10 years between people whose paths would not have crossed if it wasn’t for training, and that is one of the biggest compliments we have ever received! The very reason building a community will always be one of our main goals 😃

Sick of scrolling? 😭🫠💀

As the evenings get brighter and the weather starts to improve, it’s the perfect reminder to spend less time staring at screens and more time outdoors. 🌳

Reducing screen time can have a huge impact on mental health — helping to lower stress, improve sleep, reduce anxiety, and boost overall mood. Constant notifications, scrolling, and screen exposure can leave us feeling drained without even realising it. 🥱

Stepping outside, getting fresh air, going for a walk, exercising, meeting friends, or simply enjoying the longer evenings can help reset both mind and body. Even small changes — swapping an hour of scrolling for an evening walk — can make a noticeable difference. 🚶‍♀️

These brighter months are a great opportunity to reconnect with the outdoors, become more active, and create healthier daily habits. Especially with the bit of heat forecast for the weekend ☀️

When was the last time you gave your kids eggs for breakfast? 🍳

Starting them off with a stable blood sugar level will enable them to better stay off the rollercoaster of peaks and troughs all day 🎢

In turn, this will help with mental clarity and behaviour.

They’ll likely be more productive in school, all with carry over to mood 😇

This is not an exact science, but the principle and theory of it makes perfect sense.

Start you and your children’s day with a balanced breakfast. If they don’t like eggs, try some yoghurt. A back up plan could be something like cheese on wholemeal toast, less protein but more complex (slow energy releasing) than jam on white bread for example, or frosties.

The peaks and troughs in sugar levels are what can cause carb cravings, tiredness and brain fog.

Start the day right and the chances of a productive day will be much higher ⬆️ 💡

Are you a busy mum and find breakfast a struggle in the rush to get everyone else sorted⁉️

If so, we’ve got you covered. Here are 3 quick and easy breakfast ideas that you can prep in advance or make in less than 10minutes ⏱️

1-Overnight oats- you can mix it up by changing the toppings or flavour of protein powder. It only takes 5minutes to make and is super tasty.

2-Bagel- simply use some store bought bbq chicken breast, bacon, some chorizo, watercress & tomato. Handy to prep in advance for breakfasts or lunches. Like a BLT only better 👌🏻

3-Omelette - throw this omelette together in less than 5 minutes and put it in the omelette maker, 10minutes total and it’s ready. You can sort everyone else’s breakfast while it cooks 👩‍🍳 Use sliced bacon medallions, one tomato, some scallions and some red leister cheese and it’ll turn out perfect 👌 these also could be made in advance so it’s more of a ‘grab and go’ if you’re really pushed for time.

Having breakfast as a busy mum doesn’t need to take 30minutes out of your morning, plan in advance where possible. If you can prep, then do so, it’ll save you having to think about it every morning which is a massive win 👏

But if you haven’t prepped and are stuck for time, these few ideas should help! Less time wondering what on earth to make, while trying to get everyone out the door fed and watered 📚

IS THIS YOU⁉️

Health & fitness doesn’t have to be all or nothing, working at 80% consistently over a month will see better results than inconsistently hitting 100% across a few days of the month.

Not too many things in life are as straight forward as we hope. Things don’t always go to plan 😭 If you’re driving down the road and get a flat tyre, you wouldn’t slash the other three “just because”. If things don’t go to plan nutritionally or with regards exercise, don’t “slash” your other tyres ❌ Fix it and continue on your journey 💪🏼

If things aren’t going to plan this week so far (bearing in mind it’s only Monday evening 😳🫠), only YOU can do something different. There’s no point “slashing” your other tyres and waiting until next week to fix them all, get yourself back on track ASAP. If this hasn’t happened to you, it’s always good to have a contingency plan for when these bumps occur on your journey.

▫️Forget about it
▪️Make sure your next food choice is in line with achieving your goals ✔️
