Let’s debunk some common misconceptions surrounding Manual Lymphatic Drainage shall we?
Myth 1️⃣ - It’s only for fat loss. MLD does not directly reduce body fat or break down fat cells. Temporarily, it can reduce stagnant fluid retention and decrease bloating, making you feel lighter and trimmer.
Myth 2️⃣ - It’s only cosmetic. There are lots of modified and intensified techniques out there such as Brazilian MLD that are popular for their aesthetic results in body contouring. This shouldn’t be confused with traditional MLD and choosing between different methods depends on your goals.
Myth 3️⃣ - One session will fix everything! Well, one session should help you feel the benefit but consecutive sessions will enhance results for sure, especially in post op recovery. Most people have a goal in mind such as to reduce bloating, decrease sluggishness etc.
Myth 4️⃣ - More pressure = better results. Not in MLD! Lymph lays just under the skin. I always explain it as a treatment, not a massage. Deep pressure can counteract results and actually damage lymphatic function, making symptoms worse.
