So much of the “regulation” advice out there teaches us to turn our emotions down, distract, positive vibes your way out of them. Which can be helpful tools when used in the right way. But the key thing to remember is that emotions that don’t get felt don’t disappear, they just get stored.

This is your reminder that feeling it fully (safely, in your own time) is the regulation.

Save this for the next time you’re spiraling trying to make a feeling go away 🤍 experiment and see what happens if you allow yourself to sit with it, without judgement.

If you think you’ve healed from something but are still being triggered, this is for you.

It might not be that your hard work has been undone but that you’ve actually just found the thorn.

In this metaphor the thorn is the root cause of the pain that we often try so hard to avoid feeling.

Is there a thorn you’re protecting?

Resting can feel unsafe to your nervous system if your self worth is tied to how much you can achieve.

Often this belief is formed during in childhood and reinforced in the work environment. For example, receiving praise when you do well in school and subsequently if you’ve worked really hard at work.

Overtime our nervous system may learn that it is only safe when being productive and as a result rest makes us feel uncomfortable.

Breathwork is a great way to to begin slowly training your body that stillness is safe.

Crying isn’t a weakness, it actually reduces cortisol & improves recovery.

Crying is a natural physiological response to emotion and sometimes, it’s exactly what your nervous system needs.

We’re so often taught to hold it together, push the feelings down and “be strong.”

But your body doesn’t always need you to think your way through an emotion.

Sometimes it needs you to feel it and sit with it.

Crying can be part of emotional processing and may help your body move out of a heightened stress response and towards a more settled state.

So the next time you feel the tears coming…Don’t rush to stop them.

Take a breath.
Let yourself feel.
Let yourself soften.

You’re not falling apart. Your body may simply be letting something move through.

Save this as your reminder that you don’t always have to hold it all together & please never feel that you have to apologise for crying in session. I am grateful that you feel safe enough to release 🤍
