Helen Lewis Reflexology

Helen Lewis Reflexology Helen qualified in 2000 and is a leading practitioner in Northants, Daventry, Rugby and surrounding areas.

Helen works clincially; integrating her treatments with your conventional medical care for optimal results. Helen Lewis began her Reflexology journey in 1999, after she suffered with fertility and health issues. At the time, Reflexology was fairly unknown, and it was only when Helen conceived during receiving weekly treatments as part of her training, that she realised just how powerful and effect

ive this naturally gentle therapy could be. Fast forward on to the current day, and Helen now lives with her husband, various pets and is a mum to two adult boys. In her career she has become one of the region’s leading practitioners, and her knowledge and results have inspired others to learn Reflexology and become therapists themselves, often under her mentorship. Helen still continues to train and integrate her work alongside a recognised team of international osteopaths. This has given her a unique approach to how the bio mechanical movement of the body can affect human health, and has enabled her to achieve optimum results with her patients. Helen specialises in conception, maternity and post natal care, and offers treatments and support for pregnant and post natal mothers and babies. Helen is a co creator of the 'Barefoot Baby Targeted Approach'. These informative classes help parents to understand how to maximise their baby’s health and wellbeing, at what is often an emotional and daunting time. Helen also works with medical professionals where possible, to support women with their mental and physical health during conception, pregnancy and post natal stsges. Helen is a Director of The Cedar Grove Clinic in Daventry, which promotes family health and wellbeing in the local community. Helen and her team always try to work in conjunction with your medical practitioners to offer the best all round care for you and your family, and are not a substitute for conventional medical care. Clinic appointments, virtual online assessments and consultations are available to support you and your family by appointment.

It’s not unusual to feel sleepy, heavy, or even emotionally drained after your Reflexology session. This often indicates that your body is responding positively.

Reflexology activates the parasympathetic nervous system; the “rest and digest” system responsible for slowing heart rate, lowering blood pressure, and promoting recovery. When the body shifts out of a chronic stress state, it finally has permission to relax, repair, and rebalance.

That deep relaxation can sometimes feel like fatigue, especially if your system has been running on adrenaline or stress for a long time. The tiredness isn’t a side effect but a signal that your body is resetting and rebalancing.

Research supports this response with studies* showing measurable reductions in heart rate, blood pressure, and anxiety levels following Reflexology - clear indicators of parasympathetic activation.

A 2011 pilot study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that Reflexology sessions produced significant decreases in salivary cortisol (the body’s main stress hormone), reinforcing the link between a treatment and stress reduction.

Improvements in sleep quality and relaxation have been documented across multiple clinical settings, from cancer care to maternity wards, all pointing to the same physiological mechanism of rest and regulation.

Feeling tired after reflexology is simply your body exhaling and catching up on the rest it’s been asking for.

A review published in the National Centre for Biotechnology Information looked at what happens physiologically and biochemically when people receive Reflexology and their findings were interesting;

👣Several studies showed reductions in cortisol (the body’s main stress hormone) and changes to digestive enzymes in saliva.

👣Heart rate and blood pressure changed and become more balanced during some treatments:
Recipients often experience a calming effect — including the lowering of their heart rate and blood pressure during or after a session. This reflects activation of the parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) system.

👣Improved relaxation and emotional wellbeing.
Participants consistently reported feeling calmer, more centered, and less anxious after reflexology. This isn’t just subjective — some studies observed measurable shifts in physiological markers of stress.

⚠️ Important note:
These changes don’t mean reflexology treats or cures disease. But they do show that what happens during a session is more than just 'pampering' or a 'foot rub.' Treatments can actually support the body’s natural stress regulation pathways.

A relaxed body has more capacity to heal, regulate, and restore balance. Reflexology supports the body’s natural balance by encouraging deep relaxation and reducing stress. Small shifts inside can make a big difference in how you feel on the outside.
