πŸ’™ World MS Day πŸ’™

Today we recognise and support everyone living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

MS can affect people in many different ways - from fatigue and balance difficulties to changes in mobility, strength, confidence and everyday routines. Some challenges are visible, while many are not.

At PhysioFunction, we understand that living with MS can feel overwhelming at times, but you do not have to navigate it alone πŸ’š

Our team can support people living with MS through:
✨ Physiotherapy to improve strength, balance and mobility
✨ Fatigue management strategies
✨ Functional rehabilitation to support everyday activities
✨ Exercise programmes tailored to individual goals
✨ Falls prevention and walking support
✨ Advice, encouragement and ongoing support

Most importantly, we focus on what matters to you - helping you stay active, independent and confident in daily life.

Today is about raising awareness, showing compassion and reminding those living with MS that support is available.

πŸ’™ You are stronger than you think, and every small step forward matters.

A hospital stay can sometimes leave people feeling weaker, less confident, and disconnected from the activities that bring them joy. Often, with the right support and tailored rehabilitation, it’s possible to regain both confidence and independence πŸ’™

Jean has been working incredibly hard to rebuild her confidence with walking. Recently, she challenged herself to use her walking stick outdoors instead of relying on a wheeled zimmer frame or rollator πŸ‘

What makes this progress even more special is what it means for everyday life. Jean has now returned to watering her beloved garden independently and managing her own laundry again 🌼🧺 These are tasks she was previously asking carers to help with, but thanks to her determination and hard work, she no longer needs that support.

What amazing progress you’ve made, Jean - keep going! 🌟

Karin is making fantastic strides in her rehabilitation - quite literally! πŸ‘πŸ’ͺ

In this session, Karin worked hard on her coordination and walking pattern using poles while turning and walking through cones. To make the challenge even greater, we introduced floor dots to disrupt the rhythm and flow of walking, encouraging Karin to work even harder to regain a coordinated walking pattern 🌟

These types of exercises help improve balance, coordination, motor planning, and confidence with walking in more complex environments.

Amazing work, Karin - keep it up! πŸ™Œ

Environmental Assessments: Making Your Space Work for You 🏑✨

Did you know Occupational Therapists (OTs) can help transform the places you live, work, and play into safer, more supportive environments? By understanding how your abilities interact with your surroundings, we identify barriers and recommend personalised changes - so you can keep doing what you love πŸ’™

Here’s how OTs can improve your environment:
βœ”οΈ Safety & Prevention – Reduce risks and prevent falls or injuries
βœ”οΈ Physical Adjustments – Improve layouts and body mechanics to ease strain
βœ”οΈ Greater Independence – Use adaptive strategies and tools for everyday tasks
βœ”οΈ Full Accessibility – Create spaces that support your health and comfort

It’s all about a collaborative, client-centred approach - turning your space into a partner in your independence πŸ™Œ

🌟 Dynamic balance training in action! 🌟

Linda has been working incredibly hard on improving her balance, coordination and confidence with movement.

With the recent warmer weather, we took therapy outdoors to introduce new challenges and real-world environments β˜€οΈ

Walking on gravel creates an uneven surface that helps:
βœ”οΈ Strengthen the muscles around the ankles and feet
βœ”οΈ Improve proprioception (body awareness)
βœ”οΈ Support better balance and stability

These are all key focus areas for individuals living with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT).

To progress the challenge further, Linda practised:
🎾 Throwing and catching a ball while walking forwards - encouraging coordination, control and dual-tasking
↔️ Sideways walking while passing the ball - targeting lateral stability and balance reactions
πŸ₯Š Boxing drills combined with forward and backward walking - helping improve strength, movement control and coordination against momentum

Functional, meaningful and enjoyable therapy is where progress happens πŸ’š

We are excited to announce that PhysioFunction is expanding our Neurological Hydrotherapy (Aquatic Physiotherapy) service with the addition of a Tuesday afternoon.

We are excited to offer this increased availability to support even more clients on their rehabilitation journey.

Aquatic Physiotherapy can provide a unique rehabilitation environment for individuals living with neurological conditions, helping to improve:

Mobility and walking 🚢
Balance and coordination
Strength and endurance πŸ’ͺ
Confidence with movement πŸ˜€
Pain management and relaxation

The supportive properties of water can allow people to move more freely, practise functional activities, and build confidence in ways that may feel more challenging on land.

We are also pleased to share that Holly will be leading the new Tuesday afternoon service. Holly’s calm, enthusiastic, and supportive approach makes a huge impact within the clinic. and we are excited for her to continue this in the water.

Jon and Kiran are attending the Northamptonshire Acquired Brain Injury Forum conference today: β€œChanging Life, Changing Injury.”

The conference brings together professionals and individuals with lived experience to explore the life-changing impact of acquired brain injury and the collaborative approaches that support recovery and rehabilitation.

Both Jon and Kiran are speaking at today’s event alongside some of our clients, sharing insights into neurological rehabilitation, recovery and the importance of multidisciplinary support following brain injury.

It’s fantastic to see lived experience at the centre of today’s programme, alongside expert input from professionals. A brilliant opportunity for learning, collaboration and raising awareness of brain injury rehabilitation.

If you are attending, please stop and say hello.
