📢 EDI News Roundup – Key Legal Developments

Two major updates have sparked important conversations across the equality and human rights sector this month:

🔹 Supreme Court ruling on the definition of “sex” in the Equality Act
Scottish Trans has shared a detailed response to the EHRC’s updated Code of Practice, outlining what the ruling could mean for trans people and for organisations interpreting equality law.

🔹 Disability charities raise concerns over rights protections
Mind has described the ruling as “the biggest rollback of disability rights in a generation,” highlighting the potential impact on disabled people and calling for stronger safeguards.

These developments underline the importance of staying informed and reviewing policies to ensure they reflect both legal changes and lived experience.

The term is everywhere, but what does it actually mean?

At its core, psychological safety is the shared belief that the environment is safe for interpersonal risk-taking.

In high-pressure organisations, the absence of this safety is a significant systemic risk. When staff feel they cannot speak up, the organisation loses its early warning system for bias, inequality, and operational failure. ⚠️

What psychological safety looks like in a high-performance system:
● Constructive dissent: The ability to challenge a decision or process based on evidence without fear of retaliation.
● Error reporting: Treating mistakes as systemic data points rather than individual character flaws.
● Unfiltered feedback: Eliminating the hidden admin of people having to self-censor their expertise to fit the hierarchy.

Inclusion cannot exist without safety. If your culture values polite silence over honest communication, your EDI strategy is likely failing to reach the people who need it most. 🌍

Is your culture safe for high performance? Stop guessing. Our FREE Systemic Readiness Diagnostic provides impartial data on the levels of safety and trust within your leadership and teams. Find out more by visiting our website

To everyone in our community celebrating Eid Mubarak!

As we mark Eid al-Adha, it’s a perfect time for leaders to look at how their organisations handle religious holidays.

How to lead inclusively:
● Flexible Leave: Recognising that Eid dates can vary and being proactive with leave requests.
● Meeting Culture: Being mindful of scheduling major food-based events or high-pressure deadlines during celebrations.
● Systemic Respect: Ensuring your holiday policies are consistent and fair for all faiths.

When we respect the diverse rhythms of our teams, we build genuine belonging.

Want to move from awareness to true inclusion? Watch our webinar on making holidays inclusive in the workplace.

In an inclusive workplace, using correct pronouns is a fundamental sign of respect and systemic readiness. It’s about ensuring every colleague, client and partner feels seen, valued and recognised for who they are, without the emotional labour of constantly correcting others. 💬✨

When an organisation encourages the use of pronouns, it sends a clear message: we don’t make assumptions about identity. This small act reduces hidden barriers for trans and non‑binary staff and helps build a culture where everyone, regardless of gender identity, can focus on their work rather than their safety. 🤝🌍

So how can you display your pronouns at work?

From email signatures and LinkedIn profiles to meeting introductions and ID badges, there are simple, effective ways to signal allyship and make space for others to do the same. It isn’t about being perfect, it’s about consistent effort to create an environment where everyone belongs. 🌟

👉 Swipe across to see our practical guide on why pronouns matter and how to integrate them into your daily professional life.
