See here's the thing.....

Having focused for the last 30 years on my fitness, health and well-being, trying something completely different and out of your comfort zone isn't as scary as it may seem on paper!

I'm now fully invested in Padel and ❤️ ing it. It's challenging me at a whole new level.

Had a go at Ariel fitness on Saturday in Deeside. One off bit of fun, and was able to do the tricks without rupturing anything. Strength, mobility and fitness not an issue.

AND I POPPED MY CRICKET CHERRY 🍒 😆
1st official ever cricket match (away at Christleton) yesterday with the 3rd Team. Louise and I from Ladies DCC were made very welcome and we all had a great laugh. I was particularly chuffed with my fielding......but then running around a grass pitch I was pretty confident with.

My point......having some grounded, good fitness, mobility and strength has enabled me to "give it a go." And you know what? Non of it is scary, I can more than keep up and some......keeping fit, opens doors. It's fantastic too for your self belief and mental health, which can suffer in later years dramatically, if you don't feel you have the fitness and health to do x, y and z.

There's more to win at staying fit, strong and mobile.....and it's very much coming apparent as I negotiate my future self.

Can't wait to see what other different ventures I can have a go at.

Bonus - nothing hurts this morning.

Hope you had a great weekend to. Hx

Testimonial Tuesday 🫶

I met Hayley Robinson during recces of Dragons Back a few years back, I reached out to her to help me with S&C when I was training for Dragons Back and the moves she gave me were super specific and extremely effective. Getting me strong and injury free, during and after Dragons Back.

Fast forward to Wild Horse 200 and I approached Hayley for a specific running and S&C programme.

I had a 16 week plan which I have to say was the best I have ever had. Having been a coach myself in the past and having been coached by various coaches I found Hayley to be extremely personable. The best!

It is one thing to have a plan that tells you what to do and more importantly when to do it. However, Hayley did the tiny noticeable things, messaging the night before wishing me good luck and following up afterwards. The plan itself was succinct and I was left to have complete ownership over it, for me this works.

This made all the difference. I am a busy my to 3 lads and I turn 50 soon, so post Wild Horse 🐎 I am continuing with Hayley as I want longevity for my body.

I love the gym and running and it’s great knowing exactly what moves work! Thanks H ❤️ 👏

With no big events booked for this year......

Not having strict training plans to adhere to.....

I've fallen totally in ❤️ with the few runs I do each week.

Just before RAS it did feel a tad suferfest.

But with no high mileage requirements currently, just stepping outside for 1x 10k (quick run) and 1x distance run (currently nothing more than 23 miles and always a Saturday) and then my 2 to 3x treadmill sprints (25-40 mins long depending on what my strength session was before it).

And that's it folks! This is a considerable reduction in running volume for me each week (even if that lot still adds up to around 37 miles).

Running feels relaxed, unconditional, "in my time" and for now I'm really loving this. I do believe it will serve many purposes.......

1) there was no way I was going to be able to train for a big multi day and or distance this year (too many celebrations and places to be).

2) it'll give my body a much deserved rest, and it hasn't been forced due to illness or injury. So I think it'll be extra happy.

3) I believe it'll stop me from becoming fatigued at running. In my many years as a PT, Running coach; I've sadly seen too many have to bow out, and or decline due to illness or injury for pushing too hard, for way too long.

Having said that.....I think I forgot to say I've got a 56 miler in September 🤣 but that doesn't count as a biggie in my eyes. Oh and there are no trackers. Sorry! I'll keep you posted. Hx

Ps Next Year....well I have some lavish extreme ideas.....but that's next year 😉

I'm asked ALOT now, "why and how does alcohol really affect me, as I'm getting older?"

I saw this and thought it was a decent explanation.
It's completely your choice at the end of the day.

Client's/people I know who have drastically cut back/abstained have seen big GREAT change.

Just saying.......

Not trying to spoil or guilt trip your BH Weekend.....you're an adult and you can adult yourself.

Have a wonderful BH weekend 😘

What are you currently training for H?

Well for about the last 8 mths (a decision after finishing Race Across Scotland) I've been training to keep my hormones as happy and healthy as possible.

So I stopped doing multi long distances/volume of running and instead now fast walk for about 40 mins each day.....

2 to 3x a week run as fast as I can for 20 mins. Aiming to get fast each time.

Lift, push, pull, bend as heavy a weight as possible in all 3 planes of movement, on specific muscle groups on alternate days for a given time.

Maintaining as best form 6x week (yes some of those days are also when I sprint).

Bounce, jump, press firmly into the ground 3x 60 secs 3x week (this doesn't include my sprinting).

Bend, twist, push into my joints maintaining a decent amount of flexibility.

But my daily workouts (excluding the walking but including my stretching) take no more than 60 mins.

I'm even more diligent with my macronutrients. No more fasted workouts but do 1x week fast!

I chill out more. Sleep is deep and at least 7hrs. (I'll do anything and everything to make sure nothing disrupts this).

I stay well hydrated. And other than of late (celebrations), I've omitted alcohol!

Each to their own....but my knowledge of exercise and nutrition, and my new goal of getting as "jacked" as possible is working.

My hormones are happy. (Bloods tell me so😘).

Oh and I'm working on persistence NOT perfection 👌🏻Hx
