Disability Positive

Disability Positive We are Disability Positive. We help people with disability and long-term health conditions to live well. We provide you with services, opportunities and a voice.

We are a charity based in Cheshire and work mostly in the North West. The social model of disability is the starting point for everything we do and is the idea that people are not disabled by their condition, but by a world that doesn’t meet their needs. We have services to help you with everyday life, being part of your local community and looking after your wellbeing. We can offer advice, help w

ith practical tasks and advocate for you in lots of situations. We listen and share your experiences to influence positive change in government policy. We know it matters, because we live with disability and long-term health conditions too. Visit www.disabilitypositive.org to find out more.

The accessibility conversation surrounding the FIFA World Cup 2026 highlights a much wider issue: inclusion in sport matters at every level, not just at global events. ⚽

Recent concerns around ticket pricing, companion seating and accessibility for disabled fans are a reminder that accessibility isn’t about convenience - it’s about whether attending is possible at all.

And this doesn’t just apply to major tournaments. It matters at local clubs, grassroots teams and community venues too.

True accessibility goes beyond ramps and designated seating. It can include:
✅ Accessible parking and entrances
✅ Clear communication and signage
✅ Inclusive facilities
✅ Sensory considerations
✅ Accessible toilets and viewing areas
✅ Staff understanding and awareness

At Disability Positive, we can support your sports club or venue to better understand accessibility and inclusion through lived experience, advice and support services.

What do you think makes a sports club or venue feel truly inclusive? 💬

The rising theft of Blue Badges is not a minor issue, and it’s not a victimless crime.

For many disabled people, a Blue Badge isn’t a convenience. It’s essential for independence, dignity and access to everyday life.

Recent data shows that around 1,600 Blue Badges were reported stolen in England in the past year, the highest level recorded to date.

But behind that number are real people. When a Blue Badge is stolen or misused, it can mean:

👉 Missing medical appointments
👉 Struggling to get to work
👉 Being unable to access shops or services
👉 Increased stress, isolation and loss of independence

For some, it can make leaving the house feel impossible.

It also leads to increased scrutiny, with many disabled people, particularly those with non-visible conditions, being questioned or challenged when using their badge.

Blue Badges exist to reduce barriers, not create more.

We want to hear from you - have you or someone you know been affected by Blue Badge theft or misuse? 📣

Let’s raise awareness and protect access for those who rely on it most.

It might seem like a small thing - getting out, having a conversation, being around others. 💜

But for someone, it can mean everything.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re reminded that connection plays a huge role in how we feel. A simple moment of conversation can help someone feel seen, supported and less alone.

Our social groups are here to create those moments in a safe, welcoming space where people can connect, build confidence and feel part of something.

Join one of our social groups and see the difference it can make. Find out more on our website.

We’re proud to be a Mindful Employer. 💜

By signing the Mindful Employer Charter, we’re making a public commitment to supporting our team's mental health and wellbeing.

This means creating a workplace where people feel safe, supported and able to talk openly about mental health - without judgement or stigma. It also means continuing to build a culture that is inclusive, understanding and proactive in supporting wellbeing.

At Disability Positive, we know that supporting mental health isn’t a one-time action - it’s an ongoing commitment to our people.

It’s - a time to remind ourselves that what we feel isn’t always the full picture.

For many people, mental health challenges can make it hard to see a way forward. But even in those moments, support, understanding and connection can make a difference.

You’re not alone - and there is always hope, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now.

What helps you hold onto hope during difficult times?

Communication should be accessible for everyone, but small barriers can make a big difference.

This week, we’re sharing some simple ways to support communication with people who are D/deaf or hard of hearing. Everyday interaction can be made easier by how we speak, the environments we create and small changes.

Inclusion isn’t just about being aware; it’s about taking action to be more inclusive and accessible.

What helps you feel more included in conversations? 💬

It’s Deaf Awareness Week. 👂💜

But do you actually know what this sign means?

This symbol indicates that a hearing loop system is available, which sends sound directly to hearing aids or cochlear implants via a ‘T’ setting. This helps block out background noise and makes it easier to hear clearly.

It’s often found in places like shops, reception desks, theatres and public buildings - but many people don’t realise what it’s there for.

Small things like this can make a big difference to everyday access. Did you know what this symbol meant?
