We are Disability Positive. We help people with disability and long-term health conditions to live well. We provide you with services, opportunities and a voice.

We are a charity based in Cheshire and work mostly in the North West. The social model of disability is the starting point for everything we do and is the idea that people are not disabled by their condition, but by a world that doesn’t meet their needs. We have services to help you with everyday life, being part of your local community and looking after your wellbeing. We can offer advice, help w

It’s National Payroll Week.

A number we’d really like to see get smaller. 💜

According to the Community Life Survey 2024/25, 14% of disabled adults said they feel lonely often or always, compared with 3% of non-disabled adults.

Feeling connected to other people matters. That’s why our adult social groups, Good Company and Tarporley Social Circle, are about much more than simply having something to do.

Both groups are for adults aged 18+ and create welcoming opportunities to meet people, build friendships, share experiences, try new things and enjoy being part of a community.

Whether you’re looking to make new connections, get out and about, try different activities or simply spend time with others in a friendly and supportive environment, there could be a group for you.

Think your savings mean you won’t qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC)? Think again. 💜

Unlike means-tested support, eligibility for NHS Continuing Healthcare is based on your assessed health needs - not your income or savings.

CHC can be complex to understand, particularly when you’re navigating assessments, decisions or appeals. That’s where our CHC Advocacy Team can help.

We can provide independent support and guidance throughout the CHC process, helping you understand your options and make sure your voice is heard.

What a summer it’s been! ☀️💜

From beach days and zoo adventures to activity days, arcades and everything in between, our social groups have certainly made the most of it!

The story behind the numbers. 💜

At first glance, 6,945 payslips is just a number.

But behind every payslip is a Personal Assistant providing vital support, and a disabled person able to maintain greater choice, control and independence through their Direct Payment.

Our Payroll Team work hard to make sure Personal Assistants are paid accurately and on time, helping people focus on what matters most - living independently and receiving the support they've chosen.

Meet Sean! 👋

Sean is our Senior Group Coordinator and has been supporting disabled adults and young people across Cheshire through our Community Engagement team for the past seven years.

With a BA (First Class Honours) in Primary Education, Sean leads our Buzz Youth Groups and Adult Social Groups, helping members build confidence, develop independence and, most importantly, have fun.

From taking over the dance floor at the Chester Zoo Christmas party to trying exciting activities like water sports, Go Ape, rock climbing and archery, Sean has helped create countless memorable experiences for our members.

For Sean, it’s all about creating opportunities for people to learn new skills, enjoy new experiences and build lasting friendships in a welcoming, person-centred environment.

Big news for disabled bus pass holders in England! 📣

From 1 April 2027, the national time restrictions on disabled concessionary bus passes will be removed, meaning pass holders can travel free by bus at any time of day. Currently, the national entitlement is limited to 9.30 am-11 pm on weekdays, although some local authorities already offer extended travel.

For many disabled people, being unable to use a pass before 9.30 am can create a very real barrier to getting to work, education, training, appointments and other parts of everyday life.

At Disability Positive, we believe removing barriers is key to enabling greater choice, control and independence - so this is a change we're really pleased to see.
