After a minor fall resulted in a bit of a setback, bruising, and some knocked confidence, David walked into the gym feeling a bit stiffer and tenser than usual.

Instead of letting self-doubt or panic creep in, the team worked closely with him to get his rhythm back. By focusing on breathing, standing tall in front of the mirror, and simulating walking down the aisle with the bride, David pushed through the tension. By the end of the session, he was standing taller, leaning less, and finishing strong. Progress isn't always a straight line, but resilience wins every time.

Before coming to Able2B, David felt very despondent, feeling like he wasn't making progress and was even going backwards. Typical NHS physiotherapy consisted of roughly six weeks of stick drawings and exercises aimed merely at maintaining what he had, with no intent to improve.

Everything changed with the dynamic partnership at Able2B. Rachael’s deep neurological knowledge helped her understand his situation, while Jon’s natural motivation propelled him forward. Now, David is standing far more perpendicular, walking further, moving easier, and walking with genuine confidence.

Thirty years ago, David was diagnosed with a spinal tumour that damaged his spinal cord at the T6 level, leading to mobility issues. But when his daughter got engaged 15 months ago and set a wedding date for August, a profound realisation hit him: he wouldn't be able to walk her down the aisle.

That realisation hurt, but it also sparked an incredible determination. After finding Able2B, David filled out a form, spoke with Rachael, and shared his ultimate goal during his first assessment. Rachael and Jon immediately bought into his vision, believing they could help him get to where he wanted to be by 8th August.

David's mission? To surprise his daughter by walking her down the aisle using just one stick.

Earlier this year, we were proud to take home the Apprenticeship Norfolk Award for Micro & Small Apprenticeships Employer of the Year 🏆

Now, we’re incredibly excited to share that we’ve been named finalists for TWO awards at REGIONAL LEVEL:

🏆 Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Employer of the Year
🏆 Micro & Small Apprenticeships Employer of the Year

For us, this recognition is about much more than an award.

It’s also about making opportunities possible for people who are often told they aren’t.

Through apprenticeships, we’ve been able to support employees with additional educational needs, helping them develop their skills, gain qualifications and build careers within a supportive environment.

🎥James is a brilliant example of this. His journey shows what can happen when the right opportunity, support and belief are put in place.

We’re incredibly proud to be finalists for these two awards and grateful to Norfolk Apprenticeships for helping us discover the potential in our people.

Because at Able2B, we believe in focusing on ability, creating opportunities and helping people discover what they can achieve.

Wish us luck! 🤞
