Carers Week (8th-14th June 2026) is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.

The theme for Carers Week 2026 is Building Carer Friendly Communities. This will highlight the impact carer friendly communities can have in making a real and lasting difference to the lives of carers everywhere. The campaign will be brought to life by thousands of individuals and organisations taking action to ensure more communities understand, recognise, and empower carers.

⚠️Important information about sharps bins (needles & lancets)⚠️

We have received new instructions from the Local Medical Committee (LMC) clarifying the correct arrangements for sharps disposal. We want to make sure all patients have up to date information on how to safely return used sharps bins.

❌ GP practices should NOT accept sharps bins from patients ❌

This is because, under NHS England guidance, sharps from the public must be managed through participating community pharmacies or local council services, not GP surgeries.

What patients should do:
• Return sealed sharps bins to a participating community pharmacy. There are many pharmacies in Norfolk that provide this service, you can find a full list here ⬇️
https://communitydirectory.norfolk.gov.uk/Services/19360

• If you can’t get to a participating pharmacy, you can arrange home collection by contacting your District Council.

• Please note that for boxes with a purple lid you will need to contact your District Council to arrange collection and disposal.

Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe. If you’re unsure where to return your sharps, your pharmacy or local council will be able to advise.

📢Update following the outbreak of meningococcal disease (MenB) in Kent.

Children born after 1 May 2015 who are fully vaccinated will have received the MenB vaccine as part of the NHS schedule.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) makes decisions on vaccination programmes following careful consideration of independent expert advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI). The JCVI does not currently recommend a routine MenB booster vaccination for adolescents and young adults. The JCVI routinely reviews new evidence as it emerges and UKHSA will be advising that the JCVI considers this most recent outbreak to confirm their latest advice.

In line with the above information, the Practice will not be offering any vaccinations outside of the recommended schedule.

For further information, please visit⬇️
