Here at the Family Nutrition Expert clinic, we often use functional stool testing and microbiome analysis to help support our client’s journey to optimal wellbeing.
This might be because we’re working with stubborn gut issues – IBS, constipation, bloating, diarrhoea, reflux, food intolerances or suspected parasites.
But the gut is such a fundamental pillar in so many aspects of our health – from how our brains function to cardiovascular and metabolic health; hormone imbalances to skin issues.
So what is a functional stool test?
There are a variety of different tests that we use, depending on your individual needs. A typical test will look at:
✔️ The balance of beneficial vs opportunistic bacteria
✔️ Yeast overgrowth
✔️ Parasites
✔️ Digestive function (enzymes, fat/protein/carbs breakdown)
✔️ Inflammation markers
✔️ Immune activity in the gut
✔️ Short-chain fatty acids (microbiome function)
This means we’re building a complete picture of what may be driving symptoms of imbalance not just within the gut, but all around your body. We can then put in a more targeted approach, that suits you as an individual.
For children, this can be particularly powerful when navigating:
✨ Eczema
✨ Tummy aches
✨ Anxiety
✨Neurodiversity
✨ Recurrent antibiotics
✨ Immune challenges
We typically see so many gut challenges for neurodivergent individuals. Stool testing is such a useful tool to find out more about what may be exacerbating these challenges, as well as ways to help support neurotransmitter balance.
Testing allows us to create a more personalised, targeted protocol - nutrition, lifestyle, and where appropriate, supplementation - based on YOUR data.
Often restoring gut health isn’t about throwing probiotics at the problem. It’s about precision. 🎯
If you want to understand your gut at a deeper level, this is one of the tools we may use in clinic.
Gut health is foundational, for every age. 💚
