Really enjoyed the Business Breakfast this morning listening to Eddie the Eagle speak.

It was fascinating hearing more of his story and what it really took to achieve what he did as the first British ski jumper. What really stayed with me was his point that success was only 5% physical and 95% psychology. That really says a lot.

He spoke about grit, determination and the power of visualisation, and how important it was to get himself into the right headspace, especially when the odds were against him. The more people told him he could not do it, the more determined he was to prove them wrong.

It was such a good reminder of how powerful the mind is and how much our thinking shapes what we believe is possible. A brilliant talk and lots to reflect on.

Firefighting can feel productive.

You are solving problems, responding quickly, keeping things moving and being the person everyone relies on.

But for senior leaders under pressure, constant firefighting comes at a cost.
It can affect clarity, decision-making, communication, energy and the wider team dynamic.

In my LinkedIn Live today with Alexandra Thornton BA MSc, we talked about what firefighting really looks like in leadership, why it happens and how easily it can become the normal way of working.

We also shared our top three tips for moving out of reactive mode and creating more space to lead with clarity.

If you missed the live, you can catch up here:

For me, the biggest shift is this:
Firefighting is rarely the whole problem.
It is often a signal that something underneath needs attention.
That could be unclear priorities, lack of boundaries, decision bottlenecks, trust gaps, avoidance of difficult conversations or pressure being passed down through the team.

To support the conversation, I have created a free workbook:
From Firefighting to Clarity

It is a practical resource to help you:
Spot the pattern
Understand what may be sitting underneath it
Create a simple reset plan

You can download it here:

Let me know how you get on with it. I would genuinely love to hear what comes up for you as you work through it.

Firefighting is not strong leadership.

I know that may sound a little blunt, because so many leaders are praised for being the one who steps in, sorts the problem and keeps everything moving.

But constant firefighting usually tells us something else is going on. It is often a sign that pressure is shaping the way we think, communicate and respond. We become reactive, everything feels urgent, important work gets pushed back and the same issues keep coming back in slightly different forms.

That is why I think we need to look beneath the surface.

Is it really a workload issue, or is it unclear priorities?
Is it a difficult conversation that keeps being avoided?
Is too much responsibility sitting with one person?
Are leaders stepping in because the team lacks confidence, clarity or trust?

Tomorrow at 12pm, I am going LIVE on LinkedIn with Alexandra Thornton to talk about how pressure leads to firefighting, and what leaders can do to reset the pattern.

We will be sharing practical tips on how to pause, spot what is really going on and lead from clarity rather than urgency.

If this feels familiar, please do tune in. I think it will be a really useful conversation for leaders and teams who are trying to perform well under pressure, without constantly feeling like they are in survival mode.

You know when someone asks, “So, what do you do?”

I never quite know whether to give the polished corporate answer or tell them who I actually am.

Because yes, I’m a leadership coach who works with senior leaders under pressure.

But I’m also a family girl, deeply rooted in the countryside, with farming in my blood. I adore my dogs, horses, being outside, and anything that gets me in my wellies or Crocs.

I get real joy from growing my own food and cooking from scratch. My perfect day is at home with my family, in the garden, with good food, a glass of rosé in hand, and nowhere else to be.

I’d love to be the proud owner of a spotless house, but with a farmer husband, two young children and two dogs, I’ve given up the fight.

I’ve got a cheeky side that always wants to come out to play, but I’m also the person who will give you an honest answer and ask the questions you might be avoiding.

I’ve always been a people person. Kind, caring, deeply empathetic, and wired to notice what’s really going on underneath the surface.

But I’ve also learnt the hard way that caring deeply cannot mean abandoning yourself.

That’s why I’m so passionate about helping senior leaders create clarity and calm without sacrificing their wellbeing.

Because when leaders are under pressure, behaviour changes. They avoid conversations, overthink decisions, push harder, shut down, say yes when they need to say no, and carry far too much quietly.

Most organisations try to fix the behaviour.

I look at what’s driving it.

My motto is simple: look beyond the behaviour.

I help organisations and individuals understand the root cause behind behaviour, so leaders can build confidence, communicate more clearly, and lead with more calm, self-awareness and impact.

So yes, I could give you the corporate spiel.

But really, I’m someone who cares deeply, listens properly, asks honest questions, and helps people get the best out of themselves without losing themselves along the way.

If this resonates with you, let’s connect and have a proper conversation.

Stress does not always look the way people expect it to.

It can show up physically, mentally, emotionally or through behaviour, and because we all have different personalities and coping mechanisms, it will not look the same in everyone. Some people go quiet, some become more reactive, some struggle to sleep, think clearly or switch off, and others feel it more in their body through exhaustion, headaches or poor digestion.

We do need some stress. Cortisol has a purpose. It helps us get up, make decisions and respond quickly when needed. The problem is when stress stays high for too long and the body starts acting as though it is under threat all the time. That is when it starts affecting sleep, digestion, energy, thinking and overall wellbeing.

What I think is important is that many people do not always link those symptoms back to stress. That is why we need to get better at spotting the signs earlier in ourselves and each other, so we can be more proactive and not wait until things have built up too far.

One of the biggest thrills I get out of my business is to see my clients thrive and go above and beyond what they believed to be possible!

I worked with Danni .skinspecialist when she was at a bit of a crossroads. Her business was still more of a hobby, there was no real systems in place and no clear vision of where she wanted to take her business, or if she did she didn’t have the confidence to say it out loud.

After four sessions, we broke down what it was Danni wanted to achieve, where she was right now and where she wanted to be. Once she realised that she was stepping in her own way and started to believe in herself, her business started to take off. This isn’t by luck or chance. It was intentional. There was a strategy and goals in place.

Danni has now launched this incredible website and new business working as a functional skin coach, helping women who suffer with acne overcome their confidence and make changes to their life so that they can have clear radiant skin. This comes from within, so she talks about nutrition, analyses your bloods, hydration and so much more. I was so inspired just listening to her during our coach sessions.

We really leaned into her why, what the story behind cedar and skin was all about and I think this comes across so well and it’s her passion which will make her business a success.

Another client I am working with to elevate her business, getting her in front of the right people and she messaged me saying, you are so kind and how grateful she is. I replied and said remember I want you to succeed just as much as you do.

For anyone out there who is navigating solopreneur life or just starting their business and feels completely overwhelmed and doesn’t know which way to turn. I hear you. I have been there. Reach out and let’s have a call and get you onto the path to success.

The right people can change everything.

One of the best parts of building my business over the last two years has been the incredible people I have met along the way.

The cheerleaders, advocates and collaborators who genuinely want to see each other do well.

Yesterday I met up with Victoria from to talk about collaboration, how we continue to grow The Synergy Circle , and how we put Norfolk on the map. Our conversations are always full of ambition, energy and drive.

What connects us, and of course Denise Findlay too, is a shared belief that women’s wellbeing matters. Not as an afterthought, but at the heart of how we live, lead and work.

Victoria and Lawrence have built an amazing gardening business L V Bespoke Ltd , creating beautiful handcrafted rustic metalwork and garden décor, with well-deserved awards and recognition along the way.

Denise continues to be such an inspiring support too. As a Partner at and Head of the Norwich Family Team, she understands the reality of pressure and the importance of investing in your wellbeing if you want to perform at your best. After collaborating last year, we are now planning a retreat together for women in business who need space to pause and reset.

Great things happen when you surround yourself with the right people.

If we are not connected on here, please do reach out. Let us grab a coffee and start a conversation.
